Though I do have many tools, both electronic and physical, at my disposal there are always tools just too expensive to justify personally or through my place of work. When this happens you have to rely on the Googles to give you ideas that smarter people have already thought of. You can see in my models that I have a scan of the 2.4l engine. I don't have access to a commercial high quality scanner but I was extremely excited when my search for a budget scanner finally produced some results. I found a thread on using an X-box Kinect with some free software to produce scans. Even though I can't take any real measurements or attach any parts to the scans I create they have been very useful in spacial awareness and making sure I won't have interference with parts that I don't need 0.001" accuracy on. When I need to attach something in a CAD assembly I'm able to manually measure that needed face and embed my measured part into the scan. So far it's worked great and cost me ~$10 since I already had a Kinect. Even if you have to buy a Kinect and power cable you can have a 3D scanner for ~$40. Here is a video I shot of me scanning an LS bell housing.

    Re: 93 2.4L Shadow Part 2 : Project Shadicorn

I got the fixtures machined and welded into place so I can start looking at the front tubing. This was kind of an exciting step as it is the first time I could see how the front structure would look in real life compared to the whole car. I found that I will most likely need to build a new firewall which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The original is full of holes I don't need and structural forming that will no longer be used. Making a new one will clean it up quite a bit while giving me good access to the inside during the build process. This also brought to light the inevitable challenge of attaching the front tube structure to the uni-body and roll cage in a structurally sound way. I think I've got this figured out after staring at if for a while and sleeping on it a few times. Originally I thought I would re-pad the firewall and butt the tubes to that but I don't think that will be sufficient so plan B it is. I also learned that when you run out of scrap 1 5/8" that swing outs work great for mock up.

For those that visit the Instagrams I am also documenting the process there. Updates are a little more frequent as I wait for more progress before posting on this log. Come give me a follow @turboshad.

This is going to be the kind of car you can check out for hours and still not take in all the details.

I'm flashing back to the first posts you put up years with pics of the ORIGINAL build, the custom manifold with the other shiny parts and I was thinking, whoever this guy is he's going over the top on this build and his talent. Youre making that stuff seem primitive now

Geez AJ, you're gonna make me blush. I'll be the first to admit this is way beyond my current abilities but that was half the point. I'm just hoping I can grow into my expectations.

You will definitely grow into your goal with the help of the internet & your determination. I ran into the same problem when I started mine all though on a lower level. It all came together when I needed the knowledge the most, now just need more time.

Enjoy watching you raise the bar...

Question for you. From your rendering, it looks like oil-pan clearance will me kind of tight. I know many of the guys doing LS swaps look for the Hummer H3 oil pan, but that had a pretty deep sump. Are you considering going dry sump? If so, can you use OE Corvette stuff or a completely custom oiling system?

My first inclination is to not run any oil at all, similar to the Comp oiless turbos. Dry sump would be great but it is pricey. Even dryer with no sump is better and cost effective. I guess that could be categorized as a custom oiling system as I haven't seen it done before.

Dart is releasing a multi-piece crank and block machined for ball bearing mains.

Man... this is going to be nuts! I have seen some people do RWD conversions on P-bodies before, Larry Buford comes to mind with his 9 cars to make one RWD psycho build https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RI89gTRLd9Y, but this is a whole different level of insane! I can't wait to see the finished product!!
