Has anyone replaced valve guides themselves? Figured I would warm the head in the oven a little bit and tap them out. Looking on YouTube a lot of people use an air hammer to install them.

Air hammer with the proper tool attachment works great to remove and install w/o damage. I think I got tool from Goodson.

Would you also need to ream to size after the fact though? Just a thought.
I figured I would just install them and send the head to the machine shop to get it finished to save a few bucks. I planned on getting the guides with clips from Cindy.
Are our guides metric? I'm looking at goodson tools and it seems our guides are metric even though rockauto lists there size in SAE.

Why are you removing them? Why not just have them relined?
Some of the exhaust guides in my 782 have dropped a bit.

As Todd mentioned the proper tool is very helpful, machine shop no doubt has the equipment.
Possibly not the ideal area to save a few dollars.

I was thinking about 275° for not too long. Was thinking about putting it in upside down as well. I have an air hammer and the tool is only $20.
would personally let the professionals handle that job. I do most everything else.
I made a handle for the job, you will need a valve job after to center the seat.

You do it with a hammer or air hammer? I was going to get +1 valves so I would need a valve job either way. Goodsen makes a regular handle and air hammer attachment.
My .02 cents. Buy the air hammer tool even if you have to buy a cheap air hammer. You had a couple valve seals pop off, is that why they popped off, because the guides dropped? If so, that is a classic sign, I was going to mention that in your other thread, but I didn't want to jinx you.
As Gary mentioned valve job is necessary as factory guides are gang drilled and are not concentric to the OD of guide. Some are off just a bit, while others are off a whole bunch.

This is actually a different head than the other one that was burning oil. This head was definitely burning oil as well though. This was the worst guide. I have a decent Cornwell air hammer.
I made a tool with an allen bolt and extension on the hex. Regular hammer to bang it in and out.

I might just pick up the air hammer one. I can just use it with a regular hammer if necessary.
