    Oil burning

I posted this on FB but figured not everyone is on there. I'm pulling this engine apart for low pressure after rebuild. It had maybe 100 miles on it. It also smoked a tad on startup. Definitely blue and smelled like oil. #2 plug was coked with oil.

Verify your valve seals are seated properly.

Better yet, since you are there, replace your valve seals and verify the valve guides for excessive wear.

It also looks like you're running a G head with forged swirl head pistons. Low compression engine?

    Re: Oil burning

Get me better pics of the bad plug please.

Looking how clean that cylinder is, I'd say rings didn't seat properly or you/they damaged an oil ring.

    Re: Oil burning

Removed #2 springs and found both valve seals not seated all the way. I checked #1 intake valve and #3 intake valve and they were seated properly. This head is junk now anyways. I'm not sure if this can cause low oil pressure or if it's just the result of low oil pressure.

I didn't notice any real difference with the stock t1 pistons and the wisecos. Although I went from stock t2 setup to 2 piece intake, 3.5inch turbo intake, front mount and +40s with 3 bar.

    Re: Oil burning

TI turbo G-head pistons would have 9cc dish (no valve reliefs) and TII pistons and aftermarket will be around 14.5 to 17cc dish. Since G-head chamber is avg. 56cc and swirl is 50cc, you are down to 7.5-7.6:1 compression. Might be a bit higher if you resurfaced head and deck of block. Still, far lower than stock. It would be nice if one of our vendors offered a G-head piston for people that like running the closed chambered heads. You are also killing quench/squish area running swirl piston with G-head chamber. The dish design of swirl piston and g-head closed chamber don't match up very well.

I have a few swirl heads in the shed so I will have to run one regardless. Will be interesting to see if I notice a difference. The g head was remanned so I'm sure it was shaved a little bit at least.

Most of the piston makers will make any custom piston if you send it to them.

I know, I order custom pistons quite often. Diamond managed to lose one of my sample OEM pistons I sent them. I seem to remember losing one from Ross many years ago too. So just keep a horseshoe in your back pocket if doing that. I just ordered and received my first set of "stocked" pistons from a vendor in many years.

    Re: Oil burning

Having bad valve seals wouldn't wash the whole piston clean like that, so I still think you have a ring issue.

    Why is the head junk?

    Re: Oil burning

I could possibly have a ring issue. The engine only has 100 miles or less on it. Cam journals are wrecked. Not gonna bother trying to run it especially since my pistons are optimized for swirl head.
