Exclamation PT/GT 5 speed at the strip: The numbers

Our local dragstrip opened 2 weeks back, so I decided to run my GT 5 speed - It's a 2006 with the Limited package - Power sunroof, heated leather airbag seats, etc...

    All those heavy options.

Race prep consisted of removing the heavy rear seats, 93 octane in the tank, and air filter element removal.

Only made 2 passes because it was soooo crowded, but 100% stock, an easy launch with a tame 2.25 60ft, it netted a 15.27 @ 92.88mph...

Much faster than I thought it would go, it's geared waaaaay too tall, went through the lights at 6000+ rpm in third gear.

I'm sure with my slicks and a hard launch it has a 14.xx in it.

    Just thought I'd share....

Thanks for sharing. The first track day is crazy packed, tracks up here aren't open yet, plus the snow today doesn't help the spring time "feel".

I guess my big question Tracy is, *why* is it 100% stock? You do know that turbo cars respond to free flowing exhaust, better intakes, more boost...

The thing is, that around town it feels sluggish, and I think in a roll on one of our 8v cars would take it - the 16v needs to be revving over 4,000rpm to really pull hard.

Wow, that's moving. I have a customer with one, 05, lowered on bags, 50 trim, 3" exhaust and I just did a screamer pipe on it, muhahhahhah. I might have to talk him into dragging it.

Sounds like factory boost control trying to limit torque. I have a stock SRT4 setup in a minivan and with a manual boost controller it has basically the same powerband as a stock 2.5 T1, although it doesn't drop off AS bad if you 'over rev' it up to 6000+.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

My old neighbor had a turbo automatic, since I had the SRT-4 he came over and asked what he could do for more fun.
I directed him to the Diablosport tuner. He ordered it the next day had had it on by the weekend.
Couldn't wipe the grin off his face for a month.
Lots of 1 tire fire he said.

It depends - if I remember there was a "Limited Turbo" version that was kinda wimpy, had the neutered motor and soft suspension, etc...

BUT: Mine starts out as a 5 speed GT then adds the Limited package; so I get the GT full power motor (230HP?) and stiff suspension, along with heated leather seats and power sunroof, Boston 6 disc changer, 17" wheels and such...

Get Kevin Sykes to build an ECU for you. He can really wake them up with just a reflash. You'll want premium fuel, though. I want to say his ECU took 5 tenths off the quarter mile time for my father-in-laws Turbo Limited. I'll have to dig up the slips...
