    Converting auto to manual question.

I am using a 88 van harness in my L body. This is a non-computer auto tranny harness. There are 2 plugs that went to the transmission. As I recall, the 3.wire plug from the top of the tranny is rewired to 2 and used on the 5 speed (reverse?)the third is grounded(?) but what of the other 2 wire that can from near the dipstick?

Neutral safety switch. You'll need to make a jumper to connect those two terminals for the car to start.

The neutral safety switch should be the brown wire in the center of the 3 wire connector. That's the wire you'll need to ground to get the car to start. I'm thinking the 2 wire connector might be for a lockup torque converter, but I don't know if they used those as early as 88? Does the connector look sort of like the distributor hall effect plugs (cylinder shaped)? If yes, then it's probably for lockup and you can just leave it dangling - just like the setup in Pat's van. :-)

Got any pictures? The only two plugs I had on my automatic were the 3-pin neutral/reverse switch and the 2-pin speed sensor.

For the 3-pin connector, cut if off, ground the brown wire (neutral safety - as JonnyB said) and use the remaining two wires for your reverse lights. These will plug in on top of the 5-speed transmission.

The speed sensor connector should plug in the same way as it did on the automatic - way in the back just above the axle.

The connector I'm holding is the lockup pigtail that I added to my last van. You can also barely see the Reverse/Neutral Safety plug in the upper right hand corner of pic (you can see the whole shadow of it).

The 2-wire round plug is for the lockup torque converter, and you don't have to do anything with it. If you're still running the auto trans ECU you'll have a code for the lockup solenoid resistance being out of spec.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?
