That looks really cool. Did he do that for class rules, or to be different?

The car was originally carb'd. Curtis installed sidedrafts on the the 2.2 which was warmed up a bit as well. He just wanted to keep it that way and do something different.

I saw on FB this is a mock up at the moment. Are power goals and such known? I'd like to know how much they goal is and how hard they intend to spin it.

I don't think he intends to spin it very high. He occasionally autocrosses the car, and I think he will be pleased with the increase in torque over the 2.2.

OK boys, I just popped wood over these pictures. Car porn at its best...

I've thought about going this route with my Scamp on several occasions.

Can't wait to see updates on this thing. Hopefully he has it up and running and brings it to SDAC-26... Would love to see this thing is person...

Hey guys. Thanks for your interest in my engine build and thanks to Mike for posting since I rarely visit forums these days.

This build was more of a "can I make this work" idea rather than a "how much power can I make" build. I wanted something that was relatively uncomplicated to work on (limited electronics, no fuel injection....) and something that was very different from what everyone else was doing. I already had these carbs on an 8V and I have no interest in converting my 84 SC to FI, so keeping the carbs was not a difficult decision. How to mate them to a 2.4 head was the real issue, so there was a bunch of fabrication involved in the intake. There are still many hurdles to overcome before this thing makes noise, but i'm shooting to have it up and running for Carlisle in July.

    Curtis

I was thinking of doing this to Matchbox, but making a 450 4 barrel work instead, for even easier tuning. At present I have about 109 hp, and even if I got the motor from a Fiat 500 it would be a big improvement, not to mention SRT4 stage 3 set up...but $$$ talks and nearly done with a divorce...geeze....I never learn. Married to the first one for 27 years, 2 kids...them marry again...one kid, he is 9...I am 65...looks like I will NEVER get through with child support! BUT now I am dating a, gulp, grandma!

How the car looked when it was finally street legal again after being rescued from behind a barn in West Virginia. Circa 1998

It's a Mallory Unilite. It allows complete freedom from the power module.

Very cool!! I have a friend who does oval racing with a carbed daytona 2.5 8 valve. I think he used some kind of VW distributer with full mechanical internals. He whips it up near 7000 rpms

Sounds cool. If i recall correctly, this Mallory distributor for the 2.2 is no longer available, but because it shares guts with others, the service parts are. Used ones get good money.

I have one of those 1.7VW distributors i'll eventually sell. Seems like it could be adapted to the end of a DOHC head the same way as the standard 2.2/2.5 one.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?
