Everything I have ever read or heard says it's just a regular starter and weighs the same as a stocker

According to this ancient thread http://www.turbododge.com/forums/f7/...opar-mp-2.html, it is indeed a regular starter. Perhaps, when compared to earlier large Bosch starter used on L-bodies, this later Bosch unit is considered to be a lighter weight upgrade?

Re: P4452739 light weight starter, how much does it weight?

More than a couple years ago by now I bought a NOS bosch starter. It came with a direction sheet stating it was a direct replacement for the earlier starters and did not require the use of the support brace due to its 'lighter weight' design. Alot of the later mopar performance 2.2 parts back in the day were nothing more than later model replacement improvements/upgraded parts resold in packaged kits for easier distribution via the catalog vs sorting through dozens of parts catalogs for the 'latest and greatest'.

Good to know. I have a Nippodenso starter so I guess I have the latest and greatest starter already. LOL.

They should add to the description of the later Denso starter, that the terminal connections are well Away from the exhaust mani as well. So less chance of cooking them like you see happen to a lot of the other style.

Re: P4452739 light weight starter, how much does it weight?

I thought there were 4 different starters
an early carb car nipendenso - which always stoped working if I let the car sit 3-4 months without cranking it over , the newer little denso and the big N little bosch's

I found the little denso and the big bosch were the best when considering the crank after sitting factor

both worked for me , after being allowed to sit undisturbed for YEARS on end

I've always removed and installed the starters with the cable harness attached to the starter to eliminate fiddelin with the little terminal nuts while under the car

On that note, does anyone know of a source for the cable terminals on the starter itself, or at least the plastic shells that separate them? I've got two of them on the shelf where the plastic shells are cracked and destroyed.

NOS or used stuff that has not cracked and crumbled yet. On mine I gave up on using the oem style cable after not wanting to waste a NOS cable I got years ago on a driver that nothing else is stock appearing anymore. I got some formed 90* terminals and insulated as much of everything as I could to prevent arcing with glue lined heat shrink and then wrapped everything with high temperature fiberglass tape and then overlayed that with silicone coated fiberglass cable covering.

Re: P4452739 light weight starter, how much does it weight?

That might be an idea. I've been searching online for a while and even went to a local shop that specializes in rebuilding starters and came up with nothing. While I'm hell bent on making everything under the hood appear factory stock on my GLHS, the starter is well enough hidden to make an exception.

    So wanna sell that cable?
