That's awesome. I'm definitely doing that to my Omni when I'm ready to paint it.

That's a good question but let me answer it with another question Do you think we would waste even a milliliter of $850/gallon red on a part that is not STAYING red? Upper door frames are originally black but if you'll notice they are now red too

    Re: SDAC 2016 Project RedBox

It would be exactly 1cc (at sea level) if we are talking about a milliliter and not what you said Going4

Red is one of the most expensive colors, a good gallon of white can be had for $200. A gallon of the best reds can top $1000.

I felt the same way when I had my Horizon painted at Maaco for $199 many years ago. "Just make it all blue".

Looks like yours is a bit higher quality job. haha

You're right. Red is the most expensive pigment to make. You can usually buy metallic colors for 1/2 the price of reds...

Redbox is looking good! Can't wait to see it in Memphis...

At that price, I may have to paint my Lancer flat black as well. I don't think I spent that much in materials to do the GLHS.

    Yep.
My wife is a color formulator at PPG
She said if you want cheap, don't paint it red.
I said why not, you get me free paint anyway!

    Re: SDAC 2016 Project RedBox

That 850 was just the gallon of basecoat. Now add basecoat stabilizer, clear and hardener, sealer and hardener, filler primer and activator and the list goes on and on and on. Pretty soon you are getting close to 3k just in materials to do a "show car" level paint job. Then add say 250-300 hours to that. Scary thought for most anyone.

You're 100% correct. That's probably a lot of the reason a lot of our cars don't get that level of a paint job. The paint is worth more than the car!!!

Having painted my own vehicles, my hat is off to you(and Alan for footing the bill) for dedicating this much time and effort. I know it's not easy, and the results look amazing!!! I know from experience, photos absolutely cannot do a paint job justice. So as good as it looks in the pictures, it's 1000X better in person...

Looks great guys! Been down this road before Alan with my GLHS. IMO, without the blacked out trim when it gets all assembled it's gonna scream " look at my cloned GLH turbo Omni". IMO, the blacked out trim between the taillights is a must. I hated the way mine looked in body color.
