    Re: SDAC 2016 Project RedBox

Started on RedBox interior yesterday, pulled seats and carpet and interior plastics, fortunately I have some NOS stuff to put back in Gonna do some dynomat and a few other upgrades while its apart. a

Question is this, there are some rust stains on the carpet like parts have sat on it and rusted, I used my pressure washer to clean the carpet and tho the stains lifted maybe 50%, I can still see them. Does anyone have experience with some sort of rust dissolver that I can dab/soak on there but not eat the carpet?

Oh and BTW Jay, I have 10 hours of bodywork labor to REMOVE and fill the rear bumper, if I thought it needed it as you do, would I spend $500. on ditching it? So far youre the only TM guy that doesn't like the look and you don't really count because you've only seen pics

I had some CLR under the sink, dabbed some on there and it fizzed a lill and took it right out Great tip, unlike the dipsh!t pundits who only chimed in suggesting to replace a perfectly good carpet. Figured out where the rust came from, someone spilled a box of tiny brad nails back there many years ago and they were buried in the carpet pyle! I extricated 5-6 of them. Pics later when I'm done whrenching...

Come get it. I'm over any TIII powertrain. If I swap to Masi then I'll never sell it. 22 years of ownership as is...

Dayum my thin wallet! Converting to Masi power sounds cool though.

^Sadly, watering your lawn in SoCal is not only irresponsible, it's *illegal* if you do it more than once a week (in some cities in OC). It's a different world today

Heh. It is a problem living in the desert.

Been hitting my lawn 2x a day since I replaced 40 feet of drywell pipe and installed a new drywell 2 weeks ago. Lawn almost looks like it was never molested... almost. I can see it though. Been out seeding patches here and there, talking nice to it, shouting at a few spots for being slackers..

Green lawn is one of the perks of living 3 miles from Lake Michigan. That and toilets that really flush.

Yes, that's a cool shot for sure. I would guess A.J. is going to have that on the wall if not already.

    Re: SDAC 2016 Project RedBox

Time to update the RedBox thread I suppose.

While I was waiting on the cal I cleaned up the interior a bit more and replaced some plastic bits with nice ones I've sourced over the years. All new door seals (Jackson did the window sweeps already) made a huge difference on blocking out the wind noise. I used the Fox Body Mustang ones from RockAuto and laid in some knock off band Dyno-Matt in the doors, floorpan and just about everywhere. Probably a 1/4 of a roll of it like at least 10lbs. Not quite Silver Spur quiet now but it helped a bunch

I think it ended up in a couple other thread discussions but the 'Box has been an oil user/burner since day one. Cordes was putting in a fresh liter with each fuel tank fill up on the way back from SDAC Knowing that there was at least one bad valve guide and wanting to minimize downtime I decided to just build a new head. Hadn't ported an 8V in a few years so it was kinda fun for the first 10 hours or so but over a 3 day period there was about 30 hours of cutting and scroll polishing. Ordered new +1 Valves, new CC valve springs, cylinder head guys installed new seats and guides, head is like brand new (but better!) and ready to go. Spent about 5 hours on porting the turbo and SwingValve assembly and did the swap. Upon disassembly we noticed that the majority of the oil was being burned in the #1 (passenger side) cylinder not the #3 that had the dropped guide Confusing for sure. So much oil had been burned in the TU cast header #1 runner that I used the porting tool to grind out the 1/16" of burnt oil 'coke' that was clinging ferociously inside.

Complete the swap, fire it up and tho it sounds way more throaty and flat out Bad A$$! It still smokes

(Gotta leave work, I'll finish post later)

    Re: SDAC 2016 Project RedBox

When the head was off did you really scrutinize cylinder #1? Any scoring or anything weird? Do you have compression test results?
It pretty much has to be a ring issue then? Cylinder out of round?

That new head looks like it loves your handiwork.
