    SDAC 2016 Project RedBox

It's been 5 years since Ive had my own car at SDAC and since this car was put up for sale by a seller I've known 20+ years http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/sh...Car&highlight= and the car just happen to be sitting in a Wisconsin shop at the formost TIII builder/tuner AKA the TIII Guru (hey Jackson) and that I've sold two cars in the last couple months it seemed like a perfect match for me. Clearly since the car is in WI and I'm in Cali, I'm going to be doing checkbook engineering and letting the Guru handle the hands on engineering and fabrication before it's SDAC debut. After seeing a couple of his customer cars at SDAC last year I'm not the least bit worried about his paint/body/building skilz. I am a little bit worried about my checkbook however So after securing the car from Harold M(great seller BTW) and a few dozen calls back and forth to Wisconsin and a few hundred texts, the plan is this( I think):

    1) Engine 8V 2.5 with a +1valves stg III head, FWD Perf 46 trim hybrid turbo, welded ported 2 piece IN Mainfold, TU cast header, forged pistons, good rods ARP bolts etc. Tho I did get a fair amount of grief from the builder for NOT opting for a TIII motor, if this project ends up 16V in the future, it won't be a Lotus based motor

    2) Transmission 523 with and OBX and as 3.50 FD with Lengel bronze shift pads, welded bearing race to prevent walk off and a half dozen other neat tricks the Guru performs inside his race transmissions-painted stealth black of course. Should be a nice contrast in the red engine bay.

    3) Suspension Koni Yellow coil overs with 350/300 springs, upgraded bars, reinforced K frame, RT front brakes, B Slowe strut tower brace. Although I'm not against making a few passes in this car, a drag racer I am not so it will need to turn corners and stop.

    4) Paint and body After seeing a certain TIII LeBaron at SDAC last year, I want it like that and since that takes a hundred hours or more, this part damages the checkbook more than the rest of the build

I'll add pics of the progress as I get them and as the project moves ahead.

Sounds like a Good start Alan, and I'm really glad you chose Good rods to use in the build! (bad rods just wouldn't have made any sense )

There was a nice black Masi last time I was there, I'm sure he could figure out how to get one in there.

Cant have that motor! But he has plenty and im welding up a Masi mani to fit that 46 Trim thats gonna be on the 2.5 for now. That will make it an easy swap for Dr. Jones when the car gets back to his place. 2.5 out, turbo off, bolt turbo on Masi, put new motor in! Winning!

Not sure why he posted pic of bad bearing race. Those r fun to get off without destroying btw. Here is the one on it now...

    Positive traction

and the ports on the ol 8valve

So the RedBox project is picking up speed, powerplant mock ups, Intercooler options being explored, etc. Jackson and I talk on the phone so much it's like I have a second girlfriend Hey, how about you put some work hours in Bro Right now the focus is paint and body, I've been collecting just about every NOS component or trim part I can find(still need front corner lights and tail lights hint hint parts hoarders) The focus right now is body and paintwork and he's been sending update pics so I know it's moving along at a pretty good clip. Here's a few update pics... More to follow when I get them transferred from my phone.

Nice! This ones gonna be good!

Poor Omni hoods - always all dinged up from being slammed shut. 100 hours of work alone will go into that thing - every time you think you have it straight you realize that you made another ding sanding - they're so freakin flimsy!

Can't wait to see it completed.

    Re: SDAC 2016 Project RedBox

A few updates to project RedBox, I've been searching all the dusty corners of the TM world for body and trim pieces and found a treasure trove of NOS stuff with a local guy that's no longer in the TM scene!! He actually still has his well prepped SRT4 and a CSX-T but they just sit in his garage and he rarely comes to SoCal Applebees meets

The chassis is ready for and is being primed in the great white north of Wisconsin, not coincidentally the same shop where the very rare rear wiper delete and rear bumper delete factory options are being retrofitted
