Not much going on the last few days here on the CSX- Found a Sony CD player radio with DIN adapter that I forgot about in my stash and gave it to Kyle, adjusted the base idle screw a half turn and repaired the rear package shelf. You work with what you have! Looks like something was dropped on it when the car was being used to store parts. Some poly glue, clamps and a few pieces of thin plywood and from the top you would never know it was broken. Pity I sold a mint one several months ago but thats how it goes.. I'm sure another parts car will fall into our laps at some point in the future, I seem to be a P-body magnet now.

Might have a few door panels and seats coming from a local club member who wants to do some horse trading..

Few pieces came off the Daytona we are stripping this week for the CSX- shifter indicator, seat belt bolts, etc.

    Re: 87 CSX number 561

Kyle and I have the day off and I promptly booted him outside once he sufficiently woke up this morning.

Had him pull the back tires and brakes on the car, cleaned and packed the bearings, replaced the seals, replaced the shocks (shot) we installed a low mile set that were off my '89 Shelby Daytona and had been squirreled away! and balanced the rear tires.

Everything out back is now squared up, looks the the bearing noise is up front. At least the 89 bearings are easy to swap out.

    Back to cleaning the garage...

Good day today! Besides being Fathers Day which was excellent!

    <done> Balance front tires
    <replaced> CV joint strap
    <done> New PS hose
    <replaced both> front wheel bearings
    <replaced> drivers caliper

Aside from the things mention above we also replaced some tie rod nuts which were loose, sanded the rotors and bled the brakes and pulled the struts and lopped one coil of each front spring. The car was sitting up way to high in the front as it had 89 Lebaron GTC springs, rack and brakes and one coil dropped the car perfect but not totally down in the weeds. I'd say it sits about an inch lower than my CSX and looks great.

After working like madmen to get everything put back together we cleaned up and hit the road! The car is much better! The majority of rattles and clanks are gone, no more wheel bearings growling and the brakes are nice and smooth. The toe is still off and we might take a stab at that in a few days but really want to get the stereo sorted out so we can put the dash and door panels back together.

This is what is on the agenda for tomorrow after work. Gary

P.S. The Shelby decal was off Ebay and I installed it while Kyle was at work as a surprise.

    Re: 87 CSX number 561

Csx starting to polish up real nice...

<done> Install radio, speakers and antenna
    <done>Glue mirror
    <done> door panels

    Still to do-

    Swap windshield wash sensor
Install swaybar, check rack bolts, align
New light sockets in R/R, check R/F lights, dash bulbs
    Flush cooling system, add anti-freeze
Install air dam drivers side and trim
    Fix fan plug on relay
Find rear seat pivots, empty trunk

Busy night: Got the radio wiring sorted out and functioning, replaced a few bulbs in the center area, installed both door panels and related hardware and glued the mirror button in place. In the middle of all this Faith calls due to the Rampage breaking down on the road! I had to drop what I was doing and haul --- with the truck and trailer to save the l-body's bacon.

Turns out its not charging, looks like the main 12v output wire from the alternator went south. I'll poke it that issue more tomorrow. Always something.

Nah, she is going to have a lot of local seat time before going anywhere long distance!

If I'm going to SDAC (which is very, very doubtful) it would be in my CSX 193 (which I'll be working on again in a day or two and driving into work this morning) or taking the Challenger.

Momma's Rampage turned out to be a weak fusable link on the main alternator line, all fixed.

Another busy night- Kyle finished the seats and scrubbed the car down while I was fixing the fan wiring, replacing the washer float, flushing the cooling system and making several repairs to the exterior lighting sockets and connections. Looking good for a weekend wrap up.

    <done> Swap windshield wash sensor
<done> New light sockets in R/R, check R/F lights, dash bulbs
<done> Flush cooling system, add anti-freeze
<done> Fix fan plug on relay

    Still to do-

Install swaybar, check rack bolts, align
Install air dam drivers side and trim
Find rear seat pivots, empty trunk

Car is pretty much turn key after the alignment this weekend.

    Re: 87 CSX number 561

Mixed bag this weekend, really wasn't able to work on car till today and it was cranky.

I pulled the cluster to replace all the burned out bulbs (7!) and when I reinstalled it the tach wasn't functioning! Pulled everything back apart and found two of the pins inside the cluster broken off going into the tach. Swapped everything into a spare cluster and reinstalled. Installed the seat trim on drivers seat and swapped head rests. Installed seat belts for rear seat. Cleaned out trunk and loaded a spare tire, jack and tire iron.

Aligned the front end, toe was off 2.5 inches! Went to install sway bar and found out had no good bushings, ordered set from Rock Auto.

Took the car for a good long road test after topping off the tank with $25 of high test and a can of dry gas. Car ran and rode well for the majority of the drive. R/F caliper dragging though towards end of test. Ordered caliper from Rock Auto.

Not bad for first outing, list of stuff to do getting smaller and smaller.

    Gary

p.s. might have a coolant leak from the heater valve, need to scope that out.

Gary, is that the stub type control arm bushing? I think I have a few poly sets.

    No worries.

Caliper and seat bolts showed up yesterday, bushings will be here today or tomorrow. And I have a few ideas how to tune the front air dam up.

Nice, nice! Should be all wrapped up by this weekend more or less.

The only other things I think we are waiting on are a hidden antenna for the radio and a bushing kit for one of the door hinges.

While Kyle was installing the 89 Daytona Shelby swaybar, replacing the R/F caliper and pulling the right rear tail lamp (so we could get the lock re-pinned) I was busy on the drivers side installing the lower air dam. I made up a bracket out of aluminum and installed the air dam along with the front piece and the door plug.

Also changed out the AIS motor as it was acting funky on start up and started tinkering around with the front air dam. We visited the parts store today looking for 3/8 chrome trim but no one stocked it so its Ebay again. Bushings for the door hinge showed up with the mail.

So today we installed the swaybar, tightened the clamps on the heater control valve, installed drivers side air dams, had the lock re-pinned for the hatch, had spare keys made, installed the missing rear seat pivot bolts (FINALLY!) replaced the AIS motor, replaced the R/F caliper and made some progress on the front air dam. Not bad for a days work.

    Today's amusements.

Yesterday I started on the front bumper cover. Now to be honest the holes a prior owner cut in the air dam for fog lights doesn't bother Kyle but have been bugging me.. so this part of the project is all me. I was thinking about patching the holes for several weeks with sheet aluminum, plastic recovered from a broken bumper cover or some other filler when I happened to notice that the scoop-able cat litter containers Faith uses had just the right curvature... The wheels started turning faster...

So yesterday I cut out a section to act as a backing and secured it to the cover with countersunk stainless fasteners and E6000. Now let me tell you about E6000. I discovered it while building proton packs and it is the smelliest but most flexible adhesive I have ever used and it sticks to EVERYTHING. So between the stainless screws and E6000 that piece isn't going anywhere.

After letting it sit overnight to cure I made a filler piece that fits in the area that was cut out. More E6000. Clamp and screw in place. When dry remove the holding screws, sand and skim coat with flexible body filler. While that is drying I'm going to spray the backside with expanding foam to add some rigidity to keep the area from cracking. I have a piece of 1/8" aluminum bar stock I'm going to slip in there at the same time.

This is mostly just an experiment to see how it comes out, at worst it will still be considerable better than 2 large openings in the air dam.

Kyle's work today consist of pulling a drivers door hinge to replace a bushing, not much else left to do aside from painting the last piece of trim to go on the car forward of the passenger door..

A wee bit of an improvement I'd say.

Going to let it set over night and wet sand tomorrow.

I didn't bother with trying to fix the "roll up" on the driver side of the bottom of the air dam. I figure if I added any filler there it would be the first thing to pop out if a curb was struck.
