    87 CSX number 561

My dad, Mopar-Tech, and I went to pick up a 87 CSX., which happend to be number 561. Before we went to get it, he let me into a "secret", that my brother and I were gonna be the ones to get her going again. So this is the thread where i'll be doing, well, updates on whats been done to the car.

A few things My brother and I plan on doing is replacing the seats, if you can call it replacing (theres only a driver seat ;D ), we got exhaust a transmission, sway bar and tires from Nick. Mopar-Tech is giving us a engine, which he can't remember what its from... new nickname "Mystery Motor". We're gonna have pumper rims on it, and paint them a matte black.... haven't desided yet. We're also stealing parts from a 88 Daytona Z that my Dad and I picked up. Other than this, we don't know what we're gonna do with the car. She'll be running and driving..... thats the plan.

Great project, lucky kid and lucky dad too. Just a couple months ago I sold my 13 year old son's 89 LeBaron GTC 5 speed, intercooled, big brakes all the good stuff. He had no interest in working on it so it went to Utah to an appreciative new owner. So I consider it lucky for your dad to have a kid that's willing to do the work and lucky for you that your dad is well, Gary Donovan

Boys dragged in the engine that had been sitting next to the porch under a tarp for a few years. Before that it was in the storage shed for several years. I had planned on stripping it down for parts and discarding it but never got around to it.

Came out of an 86 something but darned if I can remember, a lot of cars passed through the garage here. It was a good motor, only reason it was saved. For a start it will do just fine.

Boys stripped it down and found out it was very clean inside, had a fairly fresh Mopar gasket and new set of later Mopar headbolts. Flat slider cam is a little worn but were going to leave it for now. Turned over nice and nothing feels loose. They stripped it down to the short block and started scraping gaskets. Tomorrow they are going to clean parts and maybe get the oil pan and head back on.

Heading out to the barn we rounded up an Turbo II intake or two, exhaust manifold, turbo inlet hose and a few other odds and ends.

They need to do inventory of what the have and make up a needs list (HINT HINT)

We might start stripping the Shelby Daytona soon as there is several parts we need from it and I have to get rid of it before the snow flies.

    From JT-

"#561 was shipped 9/25/1987 to Potamkin Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge in New York, NY. The last 3 digits of the engine tag should be a "426"

    Engine tag is missing.

Kyle has sick for a few days and is doing better today so they got tossed outside to get some work done.

I'll let Kyle fill you in.

Okay, Kyle here. Today was finishing the cleaning most of the engine, such as the block, oil pan, pulleys. Once Dad thought it was good enough, we went over some of the parts with carb cleaner, then painted them. We painted the block and water pump pulley black, and the intermediate and cam shaft pulleys silver. Also, the oil pan is on and black. We would've had all of this done earlier this week, but i managed to get post nasal drip, rather annoying. Tomorrow, we plan on cleaning and installing the head, and most likely a few other things.

Its tough to make progress when you're fighting back a cold or not feeling good. But you seem to be moving along. Spending time now to get those little things detailed will make the completed engine, and project look really nice.

    Re: 87 CSX number 561

Made little progress today- Jacob pulled the turbo off a 89-91 2.5 engine and I gave it a squirt of lube to free up a bit (it did spin but snug) no oil in the housings so gambling its ok. Kyle cleaned the head and gasket surfaces. Found one guide low in the head. Going to make up a tool to whack it back in place.
