update... chromguy will be sending the board design off in the next day or two. once he gets the proto boards back from china he will need to assemble a couple and send one to me for testing. if all checks out we can post some pricing and more details.

i've got the windows and android programming done for both mptune (read/flash bin) and mpscan (logging). the real bummer at this time is i have not started on actually being able to change a tune. that is next but will take a fair amount of time to code all the nuances of all the table types and present it in some simple way. fortunately that is strictly an android issue and should not delay the mpscilink device introduction. be great if these things are available within a couple months. hopefully by that time i can finish up the tune editing.

Thanks for the work on this Morris. I for one am looking forward to MPScan for Android. If nothing else, I'd like the ability to open my phone and get a peek at what is happening at WOT if I think I hear some knock. The work is definitely appreciated.

I should be in a position to test one of the first batch shortly... that is, if the first batch becomes ready.

    Hello All,
I should receive a small prototype batch of PCB boards in approx. 10 days. We will build a few up and test to verify operation.

Nice - will you be producing them with the purple solder mask?

    Re: MPSciLink

Well actually these are from OSH Park. Made in the USA but very expensive at $20 each just for the bare board. These wuill be used for first run assembly and testing
We are considering purchasing the majority from China at 1/5 the price.

If we order 15 boards from OSH Park it will drop the PCB price down to $10 each.

    What do you think?

Is the made in the USA board a better quality made board than the China board? Half price for the USA made board in quantity is a good price break.

    Re: MPSciLink

The USA made board is reportedly better quality with gold plated contacts. My only concern is will people want to pay $7 extra for a better board? To put things in prospective, the board will be populated with chinese components.

It might be more likely to survive a repair, if you need to remove a bad chinese component? ?

I'd pay the extra for a USA made PCB. Shouldn't it also cut down on the lead time to get the boards as well?

Yes it can reduce PCB leadtime by a week or so.

I'd pay a little more for that, and also the whole keeping jobs in the USA thing.

Can we have an update on this?
I am ready to test one. Or at least ready to figure out how i need to prepare the car for one.

    Re: MPSciLink

it might be a while yet wayne. chromguy was waiting for the boards to get to him last week. so he'll have to chime in on what's up. also, he will need to assemble a couple test units and send one from canada to me to test. the software side of things is basically done. might be some tweaks depending on the boards. btw, i did add the ability to edit tunes in the new version of mptune for android. very basic but it works!
