I have the Eastwood TIG200. I honestly haven't used it enough to tell you how durable it is, but it does work fairly well. Some people are a little antsy over it because it's a solid-state type of unit and I've heard they can be troublesome. Honestly the only thing I've had an issue with was the foot pedal cord had a bad connection in the terminal that plugs into the unit (easy fix once I found it) and when that was going on it would hesitate to fully "start"...if that makes any sense. I just ran out of argon, so I need to get a new bottle before I can start messing with it again.

Gary, I don't know what your budget for a welder is but you can't go wrong with one of these. http://www.usaweld.com/ProductDetail...ode=70221-12.5
I've owned one for 15 years and it works great. It has features you cannot get on other welders unless you spent BIG money.

yes warren those are actually pretty decent rigs.. they are basically a cheaper version ( price wise ) of the thermadyne that's about twice the price. Those inverter welders are nice .... thats what I've been looking at to replace my lincoln precision tig , good machine but I need more power for the odd jobs I do but I don't have alot of garage space left anymore with a lift I have planned to install. I would run 2% Lanthanated tungsten with that inverter, the tip end stays true a lot longer than pure.

    We are in discussions.

Chassis is my real mood killer right now.
The plan as far as I'm concerned is to make the car 9 second legal but not jump through the hoops just yet to get it certified. I'm not heading out to set the world on fire, just going out to have some fun and not burn myself out pushing the edge again.

Well that is the million dollar question I guess.

The main use is going to be for fabricating 1/8"-1/4" pieces like motor mounts, intake plenum and other aluminum bits. What do you suggest?

Once the car is assembled I don't suspect I'll use it very much aside from the odd repair job from work though. Hell, my MIG is used only to build exhaust systems, engine racks for the garage and general repair stuff. I did purchase a plasma cutter last year from Eastwood which works very nice, have not had a chance to use it once aside from some practice!

The chop saw on the other hand... man I wish I got one of those years ago. Its the bomb.

Pictures from Wangs dyno while doing some testing.

The digital volt meter attached to the dash was hooked into the MAP sensor circuit so I knew precisely where fueling had to be adjusted in the tables at any given point. Chatting with a good friend at Mopar, they would work in Torr values (absolute pressure) and do conversion. He was suprised that I didn't work in Torr values but the actual voltages the MAP sensor was reading. I knew in my head what the voltages were for a given vacuum/pressure reading and would just adjust what I needed from there, no conversion need.

Just scale your tables from 0-5V

The bottle cracks me up, everytime I tried to use it (while the car was in the 10's) something would happen preventing operation. Had a number of good passes in the high 11's with it but the car kept going faster and faster without it as I learned more and more what the engines liked.

I do remember the second pass at New England Dragway was suppose to be on the bottle against the Supra but it was so cool up there the bottle was too cold and I didn't have a tank heater. It was a tantalizing thought a 9 second timeslip was just a bottle pass away but it never happend.

Wow, I guess all the greats tune based off of MAP voltage. Right Jon Trotter?

Thanks for the pics Gary. It's amazing to see all of these.

It is a very accurate way to tune- You have the raw information at your fingertips via voltmeter or scan tool.

Why on earth would you convert inches of mercury, pounds or bar to volts anyway?

Thanks for the pics Gary. It's amazing to see all of these.

Very interesting to see higher quality pictures from the past. Everything back then looked a bit like your signature does right now. Yay to the death of 56k internet.

Agreed. A lot of the pictures I posted in the past were always crunched down in size with lots of compression to keep from killing 33k-56k modems.

    Re: Relentless 2016

You know looking at these photos I don't think it was the time I was testing Steve's 2.2 but a few of the pictures are puzzling.

When I was dynoing the 2.2 I had a 5-speed in the car to keep the automatic from being a factor in tuning. Also in these pictures it still has a logic module and not the split smec setup that is in the car now. I'll have to root around my notes and post what I find. Also there is no dry powder residue from the fire.

    Very curious.

Pictures are clearly not from THE dyno event.

As you can see in this picture off my website the power board for the SMEC is clearly visible and you can just make out a clutch cable.

I think I recall running the engine on the dyno with the auto and it lifted a headgasket (cylinder one) and when I returned had converted it to a stick and SMEC and a water line to keep #1 cool.. I'll have to dig through my picture collection to find the photos from that event.

Can you track down by picture date stamps? Or the old digital photos don't have that file info?

No can do- Every time I back them up they pickup the date of the last backup.

I'll be able to figure it out by looking at my dyno notes and the dyno sheets. I have the program they run the dyno with so I can load the raw files and study the run data.

I think Wayne is talking about EXIF data in the photo itself, not just the file modified date.

First dyno pics are from- Last Modified Date/Time = 2003:05:10

Last dyno pics were- Last Modified Date/Time = 2003:06:16

Amazed I set the date on the camera.
