hardtop daytona windshield moldings / reveal moldings, replacements? removal?

The thin rubber reveal molding / weather strip that goes up both driver and passenger side of the windshield is starting to disintegrate from age. It's a fine strip that attaches to the metal molding, it's maybe a 1/4 inch wide. This is for a hard top car, not a t-top car. I've been browsing around online and am not seeing any weather stripping or molding that matches. Thought maybe someone might have a suggestion. I know the my t-top cars also have a fine rubber molding all the way around also, might be similar? I know it is cosmetic, and not the seal, but would like it to look good. May just remove it if I can't find a replacement rather than have a nasty jagged edge.

Also am curious how these metal windshield moldings are held on, are they clipped down, or screwed on? My factory service books don't discuss anything about this molding or how to remove it (they cover the t-top stuff in detail ). I know on my supercoupe they are clipped down, but don't want to risk bending it.

    Thanks!

On my 86 non T-top Daytona the top is secure with a push in clip, the sides held in by 3 or 4 screws hidden by the rubber strip. Aftermarket ones are still around on Evil-bay.

This fitted my 86 non T-top Daytona: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Windshie...FWLYcr&vxp=mtr

I think this is for the 87 or 88 and up cars without the screws but I'm not 100% sure about this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Windshie...xWLgKt&vxp=mtr

A glass shop may have them also.

The side and top pieces are molded onto a metal U-channel, and simply clip onto the edges of the glass. Kicker is you're supposed to install them before you install the glass in the car. The A-pillars and leading edge of the roof help keep them in place; this is covered in my 1991 FSM. That being said, it is possible to R&R them without taking the glass out, but it takes a lot of patience to get them back in nice and tight. I also used some 3M weather strip adhesive just to be safe, just placing a small dab every couple inches.

Mine with the screw on type goes on after the windshield is in and must be removed before the windshield can come out. Go figure?

Really? I was under the impression that the windshields didn't change throughout the model run. Can you post a pic? I'll see what my '86 looks like when I get it back, but it may be a couple months or so.

Glad your service books cover it, my 87 and 88 as well as a 1988 water and air leaks supplement have zero info, but tons of t-top stuff. Did find that mine are screwed on. As for the ebay links, there are no pics, hesitant to spend that much with the tiny amount of info the ebay sites offer.

Might just have to contact and see if he is local enough to go by and see what he has. Your 86's moldings looks just like my 87's.

Makes me wonder what year they changed. Or maybe it was just one of those things that were different depending on the supplier of the parts?

The windshield surround trim changed in '90 IIRC. The older style has the metal strips with the screws and plastic clips. The newer style is simply put on when the windshield is installed. I am going to attempt to update my '88 with the newer style, but you have to trim off the little knobs that hold the plastic trim clips in place, so I hope it works!

crash book and my database shows:

    upper:
    1984-87 4276318
    1988-93 4422934

    side:
    1984-89 4276320-1 R/L same as 4422932-3 R/L
1990-93 4538258-9 R/L after build date of 2-1-89 13/16 INCHES WIDE AT ONE END

That clears up a lot of the mystery.

I am 99% positive this is not correct (depending on the part it is talking about). I own both an '88 and a '90...the upper trim is NOT the same.

The upper 4276318 was used up until build date 2-1-1989 and any after that they used 4422934.

Thanks! see you have them in stock. Will be in touch in the future about a set.
