    Need a520/a555 diff shims...

    Hello fellow TMers!

I'm installing my OBX into my Hybrid a520/a555,
and I need two shims to set the end play.

    I need a .050" and a .085" shim.

The ChryCo part numbers for these are:
    .050" shim - 4207134
    .085" shim - 4207141

I'm aware of the Sonnax shim kit that comes with 10, .005" shims,
but if I were to use them I'd have to buy three sets,
and use nearly all of them to make up the shims I need.

Let me know what you've got,
and what they'll cost me shipped to 18708.

    Thanks, in advance,
    Donnie

I believe this is the one that can work in place. You stack them to make the correct thickness.

That seems like a lot of shim??
I have a stack of factory axle gear shims in assorted thicknesses if they might work.
The ones with triangles etc. to indicate thickness.

    Thanks
    Randy

Not doubting you Donnie but I agree with Randy my last OBX in a 523 needed .030 in shims in addition to the factory .059 shim for its .009 bearing preload (new bearings and races). I know the machining tolerances are all over the place with these Quaife wannabees (lol), but I have never required anywhere near that much shim. I was actually impressed by the last OBX I bought, as the machining was quite good, and was deburred much better than others I have bought in the past. How much preload are you shooting for? IIRC, you are supposed to get it within .008-.010 freeplay before you do you preload measurement. Don't kill the messenger, just trying to help. I would personally buy at least a package on the Sonnax shims so you can fine tune preload as much as possible.

    Yeah, I already ordered them.
I'm just hoping to get some of the thicker ones so I don't have to use so many of the .005" shims.

I don't think they're the right ones, but they might be.
The shims I need are the ones that are in the diff bearing housing,
under the race to lessen the play.

(Thank God I snapped tons of pics when disassembling)

Not at all Todd. I would never shoot any messenger. lol
I believe the excessive shim you're seeing is because the factory .050" shim is included with my measurement.

The "gauging shim" that stays in there.
I have that one, but figured I'd get another if possible.

I appreciate the experience either way.

They're not the right ones but they have many thicker choices. I believe the O.D. is good but the I.D. is smaller.
Check any side side gear shim for reference if you need something thicker.

    Thanks
    Randy

It looks like I may have found them.

I did order the Sonnex shims either way.
They'll be good to have for more precise adjustment.

    Thanks.

Tried to PM, but says your inbox is full.

I am in need of a .020" diff shim for an A-555. I also need either a .005 "spacer" shim, or a .043" total thickness shim for the case of an A-555 (OD 1.950", ID 1.685")

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
