    Pumpers really pump?

I was wondering how much air do pumpers pump? We know they're directional and I believe they're made to draw air out of the wheel well area. At say 60mph, is there significant airflow to really make a difference?

Probably not effective as actual brake ducting, or we'd see wheels like this much more. Any functional benefit would be negated by the fact that they are narrow and heavy.

I always wondered why they only made the 16" wheels directional and not the 15".

I have 4 wheel disc, independent rear suspension, but I also have close to 4000 lbs, so I'm not a road racer. I'm one of 3000 I suppose. I was wondering if the pumper wheels could assist in extracting hot air from the rear engine compartment at freeway speeds without adding an additional electric draw to my one alternator system.

I'm not expecting miracle wheels here that can empty a 10 by 10 room of all it's air in a minute, just assistance.

So how much air do they move? If you spin them on a hoist or jack stands at 60mph, is there a breeze?

I'm sure a wheel like this doesn't come into being without some testing behind it to justify the manufacturing process as well as additional weight.

it's only ment to inhance brake cooling - maybe

all oem alloy wheels are heavy as they are forged , not cast

Still my favorite wheels. I've got 15's on the Neon and 16's on the Daytona.

If I had to guess, I'd say the added cost of having different left and right wheels could be justified on a low-volume premium performance model like the Daytona Shelby (which I believe was the only car to see the 16" version). Where as a Shadow ES turbo was still a car on a budget, so all 4 wheels were made the same. Purely speculation though.

If they are indeed functional, I'd bet that ol' Carroll had something to do with the directional version.

I would love to road race my GLH. The only place it raced to was the garage.

    Re: Pumpers really pump?

I just bought a set of 16" pumpers to use on my Spiirt R/T. I plan to send them off to be powder coated white (any takers?)

Anyway, like Mike said (contraption22) I doubt they do much to extract heated air compared to the brake cooling ducts on my CSRT.

I would totally be into road racing, but here I am out in the middle of nowheresville!
