A604

Has anyone here been inside a newer a 604? I believe the planetary failed in mine. How deep into it do u have to go to change it.

Anything that makes metal shavings means you have to take the unit completely apart and clean everything (and dont forget the trans cooler!). I used to rebuild 604s but havent done one in a long time. With a few good sets of snap ring pliers you could get it most of the way apart. The only thing that would be hard to do at home is compress the piston return springs so you could get off the snaprings that hold the actual apply pistons into the drum.
