    Differences in intermediate axle shafts

I was putting a common block t2 motor in an 88 daytona shelby. I was trying to use the intermediate axle shaft from the original non common block drivetrain. Of course it wont fit because the bolt holes for the intermediate shaft bracket are in a different spot on the block. I was wondering do I need a whole other shaft or just different bracket?

    Thanks

    Tom

The intermediate shaft carrier bearing mounting holes are in a different spot on a common block? not on mine...

I measured that again, and compared and youre right the bolt holes are in the same spot. oops. So I guess the earlier g body intermediate shafts are longer, or the brackets are different?

'88 and '89 have similar transaxles, and they are the same distance from the carrier bearing...

How much is it off in which direction? Is the carrier bearing bolted to the correct (passenger) side of the cast iron bracket?

Re: Differences in intermediate axle shafts

I posted about this recently. There are two slightly different intermediate axle shafts...not including the ones on the L-bodies. The brackets bolted to the same spot on my 88 and 89 blocks, but if you try to mix and match the brackets and the axle shafts, they don't fit right.

The bracket lines up maybe a half inch past the bolt holes. closer to the front of the engine.

Odd, I have a 91 intermediate that came with the 568 and it bolted right up to the 86 block in my Turbo Z.
