    Question 3-bar map sensor compatibility

i bought a 'MSD 23131' 3 bar map sensor on here used, plugged right into factory map plug without any mods. didn't run it yet since still need a few things. what i'm seeing everywhere now is this sensor is "For MSD controls." does that mean it wont work with the 3-bar cal i got for my car? also how can i tell if this is really a 3bar map sensor and not a 2bar

The phrase "For MSD controls" Simply means it's original intent was for use with a Boost timing master or some other boost retard box. They just want you to use their sensor with their stuff. Otherwise it's exactly like any other GM 3 bar.

from the description it sounds like the voltage scale it runs isn't the same as our computers are expecting to see, shouldnt it be .02-5v not about 1-5v http://www.summitracing.com/parts/msd-23131/overview/

    found this
    MSD 3 Bar Map Sensor
KPA Vacuum/PSI Vout Min Vout Max
    40 -15 inHg 0.501 0.761
    71 -5.5 inHg 1.058 1.21
    240 22 psi 3.816 3.952
    304 30 psi 4.784 5.044

same as GM map sensor 12223861

so its not ideal but should it work even though its .5- 5v

I can be made to work, but you'll need to properly setup the MAP transfer function since its not the same as the S60.

I'd need to check the part number on it, but I've been running an MSD sensor for years with no known issues.

    Re: 3-bar map sensor compatibility

I just compared those values to the 'GM' values and to the S60 and it's within the tolerance range of both. So, it should be fine. Nevermind what I posted before - it shouldn't need any adjustments in the cal to work.

Did you confirm the sensor output matches the specs?

With 5v going to the sensor you should be able to map the signal output voltage vs. pressure by using a hand vac pump and regulated compressed air.

just want to confirm that the GM 3-bar and the S60 3-bar are close enough in voltage output where the regular (S60) 3-bar setting on a turbonator cal in mptune will work correctly with the GM map.
