    tranny swap are they compatible

My auto in the 89 minivan is hurting. Starts off in second or third unless you stuff in in park for a moment and back to drive. So I found a 1991 sundance 2.5turbo local for $500 running and 55,000 miles on rebuilt tranny. Is it the a413 like my van? Ifso what else is different (gear ratios, torque conv?) Thanks for your help tryin to get hre going again.

1991 Sundance should be a lockup torque converter version of the A413. Fitting is no problem but you will have to determine how to deal with the lockup function. A simple on-off switch would work but I believe an Automatic 1989 SMEC can have the feature turned on. 1991 SBEC isn't compatible with 1989 electronics. Lockup trans have an electrical connector beside the trans dip stick and it will need to be wired into your van.

    Thanks

There is no logical reason to call an Engine a motor.

On/off switch worked the first time I put an automatic in Matchbox...simple ground and hot wire.

Since the Sundance is a turbo, it shouldn't have a lockup converter. Chrysler didn't use the lockup converters on turbo cars.

Well, at least through 90, maybe they changed it later?

1991 they did, not sure about 1990.

My ex had a 1991 Turbo 2.5 ES Spirit and it had lock up till I converted the car to a 5-speed.

Ok, they may have changed it then. I know my 89 didn't have a lockup converter. I remember having read they didn't use them in turbo cars for durability reasons. They must have figured that out in later years.
