    555 Shifter Bushing

I dont often need help, but this problem comes at a time when i've got so many other similarly annoying small-fry problems that i just cant muster the motivation to figure it out on my own when a thousand other people already know and might tell me.

I need the bushing that goes on the left side of a 555-style shifter and correlates to the left-right movement of the shifter.

I already checked some parts houses (i work at a transmission shop, so it wasn't just napa) , and i even had a dealer guy take my old one and dig through every shifter bushing he stocked, but that came up dry.

I've already thought of and used a couple rigged-up quick fixes, but i really just want a correct bushing so i wont have to think about it for another couple years.

It looks like neons use the same type of shifter, and 523/43/68 might also, but i haven't looked into it enough to be sure.

If someone could just tell me where to get one or sell me a new or unused one, Id love to just pop it in and call it a day.

    Thanks in advance,
    Vigo

p.s. i put this in help instead of transmission because im not driving the car until it gets replaced, because of things like getting stuck perpendicular to traffic and not being able to get the car into gear, etc.

    You can't use boogerracing's bushings.

I have a used one you can have for $5 shipped.

    Re: 555 Shifter Bushing

If anyone knows where to get a new one, or of a bushing that makes a GOOD long term replacement, let me know please! i HAVE to drive this car at least one day a week and would like to have my peace of mind back. no reverse sucks. having to pull the lockring to get to first sucks. having the gears be in a different place every time i move the shifter sucks.

    any help appreciated!

Why cant the booger bushings work? I was under the impession it was the same set up as a 523 and they worked on it.

523 is similar to 568 from my understanding, not the 555 and 520. The 555 / 520 doesn't have bushings where the cables mount to the trans.

A520/A555 uses the SAME shifter + cables set up.
A523/A568 uses the SAME shifter + cables set up.

    A520/A555 shifter+cables are NOT interchangable with A523/A568.

    Re: 555 Shifter Bushing

This bushing has NOTHING to do with the cables, either transmission or shifter end. none of those pieces are hard to find, luckily. :P

what im looking for is the apparently not-intended-to-be-serviced bushing that goes on the left side of the shifter. its about the diameter of a dime or nickel, about 5/16 inch or so wide, goes over a ball shaped stud that comes out the left side of the shifter, and fits into a roughly L-shaped piece of metal that pivots on the front of the shifter and translates the up down movement of this bushing into the front-back movement of the cable end which is directly below it. i will try and take a picture. im really surprised noone here has had to deal with this. my shifter bushing was worn basically all the way through.
