I'm working on my brother's '82 Impala with the 305/700R4 drivetrain. It's got HEI ignition with the coil in the cap, but the timing advance is computer controlled. My brother installed an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and carburetor a few years ago and never hooked some things up. There is a MAP sensor that isn't hooked up and I can't seem to find a coolant sensor or a knock sensor anywhere so I doubt the computer controlled advance is working very well if at all.
Would it be possible to replace the distributor with this one from Summit and just have vacuum advance instead and not have to deal with getting the computer controlled advance and all it's parts working properly?
