1987 Headlamp Wiring Question

Over the past few days after doing a Hella free form headlamp conversion in my '87 Daytona, I noticed that my passengers side headlamp was a little dim. I checked the voltage and there was a 3 volt drop from the battery. As I traced the wire back into the car, I noticed that the positive wires for the high and low beam go through this small harness that consists of a connector and two loops of wire. It looks like there is a small capacitor or diode in each loop as well; these loops are whats causing the drop, as there is full voltage before this point. The harness is stuck to the front of the car with a christmas tree pin and is located in the engine compartment. Does anyone know what this might be for? I think I'll probably just bypass it. Also, a front end wiring diagram might also be helpful, as the only one I have is for a '90, wich does not have this piece.

I have relays that send full battery voltage to the headlights when turned on. They were in the car when I bought it, but I know there are a bunch of people that have done this. Grounds are also important. I did the H4 conversion on my car as well, vast improvement over the sealed beams.

Yeah, the Hella's are awesome. They were so much brighter than the sealed beams, and then I found that the voltage was low, so they probably will get even better. These wires are really baffling to me hovever as I know that they are stock. I'm going to cut the insulation off of one and see if I can figure out whats under there later tonight.

Thanks! I probably will do that, but I was still curious as to what this device does.

All Right, I just checked it out and there things in the wires are Diodes. Why would there be diodes in the wiring harness?

I'm installing a relay setup right now and will post some pics of the diodes for all to see very soon.

...For all you naysayers out there, here is a pic of the diode. It is a Motorola MR751. I also took a Pic of the relays and my new wiring harness.







The Lamps are amazing now. I advise everyone to check their voltage, the difference is dramatic with the relays giving the lamps full voltage!
