sure can, as long as your still running a small spline clutch and small spline axles.
I did exactly that. You will need an 8 bolt flywheel.
Do I need a different clutch? I just bought this one, I knew I needed the T2 89 8 Bolt flywheel if I was gonna switch motors

If a 525 comes out of my cars it stays out in place of a 523 or 568.

If you don't have a better trans you might as well get your use out of the 525 and blow it up. I have access to a tow dolly at anytime so I'm not worried. Unless you want to donate a 523. I'm cool with that too.

Got a few of those and other transmissions too. Running stock T2 and barely driving it should be fine
