    1.7 dizzy

need help on a 83 rampage i put a 1.7 dizzy in. i cant get the icm to fire . i can hook the same dizzy to my 83 ecu and it will fire. i tryed two different icm with no luck. the dizzy is out of a 80 omni with the mech and vacuum advance. any body have any ideas on how to test the icm. and a 80 omni wiring diagram would be handy. all i can find are the ones with the ecus. its probably something simple im messing.

    thanks

So you're saying the 1.7 distributor is a direct drop in for a 2.2? I didn't know that..

Adam, That is the hot ticket running a 1.7 VW cap on a 85 turbo motor. You don't use the spade terminals that all the other 2.2 have. So your plug wires in theory should never go bad. Instead just replace the cap like on any old school motor. Rich bryant has the details on his website if you're curious.

Thanks for the info. I have his terminal adapters on my SRT4-engined van but had never thought of the 1.7 cap fitting on the old smaller style turbo distributor.

no, you need to take the all the parts from the 1.7 dizzy and put them in the 83 2.2 housing. it tells you how in the carb section on the other sight. my modified dizzy seems to work ok on the 83 ecu with the 10 and 14 pin . i just run the 10 pin. i cant seem to get the small 5 pin icm to fire. i tried two new ones with the same results . no fire. i was hoping to find someone who has installed a 5 pin icm . and has it up and working.

    thanks
