Right now the plan is to target the week of labor day to do the upgrade. I will plan to finish the preparations by then and start with the upgrade on that Tuesday.

Frank, how hard (meaning worth doing just for 2 weeks) is it to change the automatic checkbox settings for "retrieve and store" so that people not as savvy won't have problems? I complained about this before but back then the site hosting worked

    Re: Forum Plans

I forgot to post a status recently. I had to push off the forum conversion because of a few aspects I had forgotten and I think it worked out for the best.

One of the things that has always been hard with vB has been sustainment. For every change I make, I run the risk of it not working when the server gets upgraded to later versions of PHP, MySQL, etc (like what happened with pictures) or when I make upgrades to vB. These even included how the website is themed. It required code changes and merges EVERY time. I wasn't about to make the same mistake with IP. Lucky IP boards is way simpler and independent when it comes to themes. I was just going to make the website look the same.

I was then considering Tapatalk. The original Tapatalk was great, but now it has become very intrusive for folks. They want you to only use Tapatalk because then they can collect data on you. The advertising is getting annoying too. I wanted to ditch it for this website, but I needed to provide a website that supports mobile devices... welcome to responsive templates. I have used these with WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla. They are great because they change based on screen size. Here is a theme I am likely to use: http://www.ipsfocus.com/themes/dimension/. Give the demo a try and let me know your feedback. Just change the size of your browser window and see how it transforms. It will require very few changes to make it styled with some TM flair.

The only downside is being notified of replies, private messages, etc, to your mobile device like Tapatalk did. Well I have uncovered that IP Board supports Mandrill/MailChimp so now we can use a service to deliver our mail and not have to worry about delivery issues. This also opens us up to some other media relations stuff, but that will be on hold until after we move over. They do include configuring some mailing lists so we can allow vendors to send out product notices, etc. They will be configured separately and can be unsubscribed separately.

The only thing left is spam control. I am still working that aspect. Once I have that done and finish moving the over the knowledge center, we should be good to start the move.

    Thanks,
    Frank

Tried the demo on a PC only. Scaling seems to work well. I like the collapsible header design. It all seems intuitive enough.

Gah, the picture situation is horrible. I don't blame you Frank, but rather lazy programmers or upgrades they didn't forsee.

I wanted to get some pictures from my "Garage" to send to my brother and I can't even do that. I can't even post pictures at all. That is huge.

And the search functionality is AWFUL!

I had to use the Internet Wayback Machine to nab pics of my old GLH. Could not retrieve pics from the garage.
