    Forum Plans

    All,
As you may have noticed, there have been a few bugs that I have been unable to cure. This is because we are not using the latest version of vbulletin. This happens as security holes are secured and features become depreciated as the software on the server is continually updated. Vbulletin has issues and is full of bloat with a not so great release schedule and upgrade process.

I plan to migrate this forum to Invision Power boards for reasons such as performance, simplicity, and extras that are not just an after thought. I have already started speaking with them for the migration costs and their pricing. I expect to start this process really soon. I plan to post a few more details soon.

    Thanks,
    Frank

Very little interest in posting SD info on FB, matter of fact getting ready to dump FB altogether. Never seen such a stupidity magnifier in my entire life.

Yeah, hate FB. It never works right for me. I get a notification on my phone that an (actual) friend posted something, I hit the notification, and it takes me to someone else's post. WTF. Why do I keep trying?

Here I can find what I'm looking for and it's relevant...

    Re: Forum Plans

I've been heavily involved with 2GN.org for years now, and it's sad to say that it has died a gradual death due to Facebook usage. There are less posts made over there in a month's time now than there used to be in a single day 5 years ago. It's a lot of great information, but it will never expand past what it is now. Each year, the Carlisle preparation thread used to hit 40+ pages! This year: 4.

I don't want to make a sweeping generalization here, but I'll say the fact that this forum is made up of a large number of old-timers will keep it thriving. The Neon boards are mostly younger people that let it all go to waste in favor of Zuckerberg's digital landfill.

Let us know of any financial needs, many will ante up.
    John Laing

"The sole condition which is required in order to succeed in centralizing the supreme power in a democratic community, is to love equality, or to get men to believe you love it. Thus the science of despotism, which was once so complex is simplified, and reduced . . . . to a single principle."
    -- Alexis de Tocqueville

"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."
    --Ayn Rand

"To evolve, you don't need a Constitution. All you need is a legislature and a ballot box . . . . things will evolve as much as you want. All of these changes can come about democratically; you don't need a Constitution to do that and it's not the function of a Constitution to do that."

Thanks all for the support. I need to finish the math on the cost for this. I have one other option I am pursuing based on the recommendation from the author of VaultWiki since I was talking to him about trying to convert the knowledge center back to regular forum threads (which has been causing a delay.).

The 3000gt/Stealth group has one bully who basically screams at everyone. They have no moderation...I offended him and he blocked me Now I don't have to see the garbage he talks. On FB it seems whoever screams the loudest gets to win though. No reputation, nobody really knows who anyone is. I like that it allows people afraid of forums to participate but it seems some guys who don't have enough swagger for a forum try to get there on facebook. The guy who blocked me was bragging about being "one of only maybe 8 guys who make 500whp, therefore everyone else posting is stupid" even though that is a bolton power level for them (meaning he bought his power) and there are probably a thousand making that much HP on the forum.

Their forum still seems to be doing well, slower but still active. They had a "split" like this group so its also kinda weird. Racing and some semi friendly competition is what always gets people excited. Have to be a little edgy to keep people's interest.

What I miss most is Squirrel Performance!

So I researched the other forum and while it is lite and has a good plugin system, we need out of the box features so we are not stuck in the mess we are now where third party developers come and go and compatibility is never garunteed when upgrading.

IP boards brings us forums, commerce, pages, gallery, and chat. The Commerce will allow for revenue for subscriptions or selling swag from our members. The pages allows for creation of custom layouts. The gallery will replace our old one and is integrated, providing seamless operation and attachments across the website. The chat will help to get people off of Facebook and back on TM.

IP Board will do the install and conversion of the forums and gallery for $850. The upfront price is $390 for software and $95 every 6 months to stay current on software. This is similar to vBulletin's but for better software. That leaves us about $150 short of where we need to be financially since we have hosting costs. This is only because of the migration costs.

If any one would like to contribute, just renewing your subscription would do a lot, even if you are not expired as it should extend your membership out.

Thanks everyone for making this place great.

    V/R,
    Frank

I am looking forward to seeing the forum get moved to a more capable platform. Thanks for working on that, Frank. I was starting to get worried that it was going "by the way side".

Thanks. It's hard keeping it from being that way. I will probably be searching for another admin in the coming months to help out and revamping the staff permissions and how we do everything. I am also hoping the new software will help the vendors have a better presence and capabilities.
