It is the gear that attaches to the crank. Square tooth. 5 bolts to attach it.
Photo of it here...need the longer one. Engine is not a common block.
maybe 1988-89.

Square tooth and 5-bolt? Hmmm...
If it's 5-bolt, but not a common block engine, it must be 1988, but I swear they had round-tooth. My memory isn't so good these days, so I may be (probably am) wrong.

If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is!
Or this is just different. 1988 more likely!

Johnny, Yeah 1988 only. Make sure your keep the crank (belt) pulley together with this crank gear. As they are a matched set. Johnny you can use the earlier 4 bolt style if you change out the belt pulley. Jon, the 88 TD crank gear WAS a round tooth.
Johnny, sorry to hear of your engine problems. Are you still attending event?
Todd
Johnny,
I do have one spare 88 crank gear, but the outer ring is pretty corroded. Rest of it is okay. LMK if you can't find one, this one would work okay but cosmetically it is not great.

I have one, but I'll need to borrow a puller to remove it. How fast do you need it?
GOT ONE COMING! Thanks, but seems one is in the mail, on the way to me.

88 2.2's were 5 bolt square teeth just like Johnny needs/needed. 88 2.5 (TD/Tall Deck) were round tooth. Easy to use that tidbit at the J-yard to figure out what displacement motor you're looking at.
Somebody put this in the knowledge center since the hard drive in my brain is already too full.
not really adding to the confusion since the motor is an 88 YEs that's todd's pic. He takes awesome notes and pics that allowed me to take the 88 square tooth gear and make it into the Masi 16v CB square tooth gear.
Who needs a puller when you have bolts and nuts.
