Recently purchased my first numbered Shelby. All of the literature I read says the steering
wheel is leather wrapped. Mine seems to be molded foam that looks like leather on the
outside. Do you have the same set-up on yours? It's starting to come apart at the top.
Small chunks of foam starting to detach.
The car is a Shelby Lancer.
My GTCVNT I just sold had a true leather wheel on it....not even close to
the "leather" on the Shelby wheel.
Jon Trotter has the same thing going on with his Lancer. I think the Lancer was the only one to come with the foam over the solid part of the wheel and then leather on top. I believe the 87 CSX had the same spoke style though, so maybe some of those guys could chime in.
Wheel looks the same as the ones in the two SL I have had.

the perforated leather wheel was used 1990-93
87 CSX got this wheel too. At least mine has it!
the 3 spoke Shelby wheels are real leather, not sure about the 4 spoke
Mine's the same as that It's a Shelby wheel, but the brochure also stated a 1 1/4" sway bar, which they don't have and some other things that didn't make it into the car. If the wheel is stamped with the Shelby signature, it's legit. There is a guy in TX that did the wheel for my GLHS and did a great job. I'm tempted to send it to him to see what he can do with it. It may need to be truly wrapped to refinish it. There may not be anyone who can do it with that material and honestly, not sure I want it done like that again.

I think I'm gonna contact a guy I know and see if he can make me a cover and stitch it on.
He is in the upholstery business.
The stock 4-spoke wheel in my 87 CSX is foam molded to look like leather, but not actually leather wrapped.
