    L body to SMEC conv

Im currently swapping in an 89 minivan harness to my 85 GLHT. Couple of quick questions.
What the hell is a fuel pacer lamp?
Is the white/tan brake signal switch the same thing as the white/pink 60 way brake sense?
The ones highlighted blue are wires that were eliminated.
The ones in red are in question.

Does the old harness have it? Gotta compare new to old.

Looking at wiring diagrams i figured out the brake sense wire. Still don't know what the fuel pacer lamp is. According to the wiring diagram the or/lg wire goes from the logic module to the cluster.

My only guess on "Fuel Pacer Light" is some cars (Not any TD's I'm aware of) had a light that would come on to tell you to upshift for the best fuel economy.

I think I only used one of those wires. Most do not apply.

I believe that is correct. It was a feature on the base model cars but was unused on the GLH cars. Either way, you don't need it.

My old harness had the wire going to the LM but I never saw a shift light come on. Oh well. Now its all figured out and I can get it installed. Replacing all of those small pins is some damn tedious work.

TBI and carb vehicles had them, allowed Chrysler to claim another MPG on CAFE.

There is a TSB for how to "program the light" since the ECM had no sensor for what gear you were in. You had to reset the computer and drive the car in a certain pattern so the ECM could learn the rpm vs speed and operate the light when required. Get it wrong or disconnect the battery and the damn thing would constantly come on and off while in 5th which was a touch annoying.

Another question. Does the SMEC need a vehicle speed signal?

I know it has a pin for it, i'm just wondering if its only use is for cruise control or if it needs it for other reasons.

You really should have it. The car will run without it but you could get high idle etc. without it. It's not just used for the cruise.

I'm just finishing up the swap for the most part. Here are some notes.

You have to swap the speed sensor connector.
If the minivan smec harness was an auto you have to chop off the neutral safety switch connector and put on the reverse lamp connector.
I cut off the minivan smec wiper/washer connectors and put on the omni's because it has the rubber piece that goes under the hood seal.
The front lights are different so you have to swap the omni's over.
It appears the brake warning switch connector is different.
All of the wiring that goes to the passenger side is waaaaay too long. You have to do a lot of shortening to make it look good.
The knock sensor wire had a weird connector so i cut it off and soldered the wire to the plug that goes on the knock sensor.

Since I moved the battery to the passenger side I had to do things a little differently.

My main ground is now on the block behind the non a/c alt bracket.
I bolted the coil to the cylinder head since the battery is in the way. Since the minivan wiring is so much longer the 2 coil wires reached and still had to be shortened.
My main power wire goes to the starter solenoid. I then chopped off the 2 main power feeds from the old harness (the ones with the black connector and white connector) and soldered them into one big eyelet and bolted to the starter solenoid.

Good pictures to have if you are swapping.

Does it run and drive is the main question.

I was going to attempt this swap and you seemed to cover everything I can remeber. There was plenty of extra things that could be eliminated. Some harnesses had extra fans and other accessories for other things that can be eliminated. I'm going srt and stand alone stuff now.
