So what I am getting from this is the early style 31te style driver side carrier doesn't have enough depth for the fitzall roller seal but the late a523 does.

Well then if you needed to run a large bearing diff, Carlos showed that there is enough meet to machine out and install the large race into the old 5 speeds. I would think this would work with a413's
I say 31te since there are many varieties with similar guts. I do a670's :P

Good idea, I will check that out see if it could be done to a 413.

Following up on the axle mod. since I modified my left side (short) axle I have put about 50 runs on it with NO failures, and no stress cracks forming so far. I pull the left side axle after every race for magnified inspection and it shows no sign of twist.
That is with 60fts. in the 1.58-mostly low to mid 1.6's...……..Knock on wood

Very nice! What's the vehicle weight and estimated engine torque now?
Just weighed it at Brainerd, 2365 with me in the car. Have no idea about the torque estimate, never been on a dyno.

Great news on the dressed stock axles! Gotta be in the 500+ WTQ range I would think, albeit, at a higher RPM than any other 8v I'm aware of.

Seem to be every cheap.
thinkin'.. when you finish fishing all those little roller bearings .. or whatever's left of them , outta your diff .. then the opportunity to spend LOTS of cash opens up...
I'd like to see one of those with 50-80 000 consumer miles on it first..
I broke the tip off the bolt that fits in the shift fork rod in my 555 once.. threads into the fork .. tip fits in hole in rod to keep fork in place..
needed mod .. better bolt and thread the hole in the rod so the tip can't drop out the bottom IF you break the bolt
tip of the bolt bounced along the gearset until it got to the pinion & ring gear.. then it cracked the case at the secondary shaft bearing as it went through..
I picked out something that looked like a wad of old gum off the bottom of a school desk..
stupid stupid reason for a completely fubar transmission..
lol.. I managed to continue to drive that .. with oil top ups for 5 more days .. lose shifter fork on rod & all.. no real drivabality issues as long as I shifted 3 & 4 REALLY SLOWLY ...
so neon/hurst shifter with stops for my 568 style trans .. check..
looking at the link , to the right of the page there seems to be possibly a nice Porsche axle .. I wonder what else they might be able to make / supply .. ????

Those seals with the helper bearing don’t last long. I’ve seen them fail in as little as 500 miles.
They were supposed to help stabilize the axle on transmissions with worn diff bearings. They don’t.
But what if the bearing AREN'T worn and you are using them to keep the axle centered better. Those little bushings don't do a great job.
but the bushings stay pressed in place .. trust me ya don't wanna run over speed bumps ..INSIDE the trans
