One last question on this 523 I assembled, what is the small bracket that mounts to one of the middle bolts of the selector used for?

Perhaps to hold the starter cable & SDS wiring in place. It's just a little guy, about the size of a finger, right?

Yeah, that's it exactly. I didn't mount it thinking that the 555/520 I have in there doesn't have a bracket.

Lat question, for now....

Are the input shaft snouts (you know the throw out bearing rides on and that the seal sits in) the same from a 520/555 and 523/568

The reason I ask is because I just noticed the the snout I have on the 523 I've assembled is shorter by about 1/2 inch than one that I had in my trans parts box from a 555
It actually looks like it's been cut shorter for some reason. Why for any reason would someone cut the snout shorter?

I'm dropping the hybrid 520/555 out of the car today and want to get the rebuilt hybrid 523/555 in there but don't want to have issues with this shortend snout and have various good ones from 520's and 555's which bolt right up BTW, just longer than this one that was on the trans.
