86 Charger and Mastertech scan tool

Trying to hook this up to my Charger and receiving a "NO DATA" message after selecting year make model and engine size.
The scanner should be capable, the hardware and cables are all there. Am I hooked up to the right port on the car? Are there any fuses that power that port? Has anybody used one of these scanners before? I am a Chrysler obd1 noob!

I wonder about the harness connected to the scantool itself. If you look in the picture, the outer cover is pulled out of the plug. There might be a wire damaged in there and that wire might be the communication wire.

That connection does look iffy in the picture, but it is a good connection. This scanner was collecting dust at my work literally still in the original packaging. Looked at a wiring diagram online. Of the six terminals at the DLC 1 is switched ignition power, 1 is chassis ground, and 1 is computer ground. All those test good. The other 3 wires go to logic or power module so I will ohm those out next.

Does the scanner have software onboard that supports 1986 Chrysler products?

I use an older OTC scanner on my TM's and it uses different software cartridges depending on the make and year.

You scanner may not support antique electronics.

Yeah it is supposed support Domestic 1981 and up. The vehicle selection screen let's me choose an 86 dodge with a turbo engine option. It's when I choose to look at live data that it freezes.

After digging through the Internet and doing some research I found that the program cards come blank when new and need to be activated. I think the 128 mb card for obd2 was activated and the 16 mb card for obd1 never was. Not sure if I will be able to dig up 8 year old activation codes but will try!

My 86 Daytona has has been rewired for a 89 T2 SMEC. I just got a Actron CP9190 scanner. When I went to try it, there is no support for the 89 T2 car's. However it does support the 89 T1 and N/A car's.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] 86 Daytona Turbo Z C/S with a full 89 Shelby swap, back on the road and soon to be painted (and lose that Oggie Fisher black) 83 Porsche 944, 5 speed, all stock. 2014 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, 5 speed, daily driver. 2017 Trek 1.2 bicycle.

Did you try 88 TII? Should also be SMEC.

The scanner only goes down to 1989 model cars. The funny thing is my Daytona won't start with the scanner connected. Works fine on OBD 2 car's.
