Thread: What does the SBEC use these wires for?

What does the SBEC use these wires for?

I want to eliminate a bunch of these conductors that tether the SBEC main connector to the Bulkhead connector. What do these do, and can I eliminate them?

    SBEC pin #:

29- Brake sensor signal. I eliminated the cruise control completely, so it seems this is not needed.
43- tachometer signal. I do not have a tachometer in my cluster, and I am planning to install an aftermarket AutoMeter tachometer. I will use the coil to derive a signal.
48- Speed control switch. I removed the cruise control.
49- Speed control feed. I removed the cruise control.
50- Speed control resume. I removed the cruise control.
54- Turbo solenoid #1. I have no factory boost control. I am using an MBC.
56-Turbo solenoid. I have no factory boost control. I am using an MBC.

I am attempting to totally divorce the SBEC harness from the bodyharness, while stripping both harnesses of anything that is not necessary. I will control the fuel pump relay and fanrelay from toggle switches. The starter relay will still be triggered from the ignition switch.

I could be wrong, but I think that at least the boost control solenoid terminals need some sort of resistance to prevent the CEL or a code. The speed control stuff...yeah, I'm 99.99% sure you can yank that. Tach...hmmm...if you aren't going to run a navigator then I think you can yank that one, too. The brake sensor signal, I think you need that. I could be wrong, but I think there are certain operations that get activated whent he brake signal is turned on or off (5Digits or ShelGame could probably tell you for sure).

You can mask out the code for the solenoids so they don't set the CEL...

Reaper, what is Navigator? I'll search for it. Thanks, man!!!!

Rob, I just remembered that my 2-step is activated by the brake switch....do I need that for any other function? I could just ground that wire from the SBEC to trigger the 2-step with a momentary? Can you change my cal to mask the CEL's?

Any other reasons to put this stuff back?
