Somebody school me on how to reset the ais and set the base idle on my stock 86 charger log intake car. Thanks!

To set the base idle. Locate the set screw on the throttle body that contacts the linkage. Sometimes the hole where this screw is located is filled with a soft filler material, so you may have to clean that out.
Once the screw is located, start the car and let it warm up some. It is a good idea to block the wheels so the car can't roll. While the engine is idling, remove the large vacuum line going to the power brake booster.
This vacuum leak causes the idle to increase considerably and the AIS motor will try to close the throttle all the way down. While idling with the vacuum hose unhooked, unplug the AIS motor.
Hook the vacuum line back up and the idle should go fairly low. The engine may stall, or try to. If it stalls, restart it, and play with the throttle a little to keep it running. Adjust the idle screw so that the engine idles at about 800 rpm. You should not need to play with the throttle to keep it running.
Turn off the engine and plug in the AIS motor again. Start the car and see that it idles at about 900 rpm.

Thank you! Now I realize that I MUST have a vacuum leak as after unplugging ais and reinstalling brake booster line my idle stays around 2000 rpm!
"Vacuum leak" was an ais assembly not closing all the way. I just turned two bad units into one good one and got base idle at 900 rpm with ais unplugged. I need to fix the ais wiring still but feel good about tonight's progress.
Glad to hear you're getting it figured out.
