The Daily Driver NYer goes to PIR

Back on March 6th, I took the daily flog NYer to the track just to get a baseline run. I ran on my snow tires with 10lbs boost, just to see what it would do driving just like I did all winter. It went 16.54 at 82mph. I also got my track number for the year(for $10). Fast forward to May 9, and my buddy from work says his wife is out of town for 2 weeks and he wants to go to the drags. He's going to run her car..a 2006 Audi A3 with a 2.0 turbo and 6 speed manual. It was mother's day weekend, but the wife was good with it, so I said I'd meet him out there. I had installed a Stage 2 LM from FWD, but I hadn't turned up the boost much, Chevron 92 only goes so far, about 11 lbs. I figured I'd need a little more, so I ran some fuel out of the tank through the return line, and then added a couple gallons of VP109 unleaded race gas I had. I had also put some new rubber and rims on, 195/60/15 BFG super sport AS on 16 lb wheels from Tire Rack. 1st pass, I was only around 12-13lbs of boost, my 60' was 2.4, 1/8th =10.23@69, 1/4= 15.98@84. The A3 Audi went 60'=2.39, 1/8th=10.14@71, 1/4=15.65@89. My buddy was pretty surprised, it was pretty close. He won by .25 in the quarter. My best pass of the night after I dialed in 14lbs boost was 15.63@86mph, improved my baseline run by 9 tenths of a second.

So you actually go to go side by side. How was the atmosphere there? Still my fantasy track simply based off the schedule.

Yeah, the track has a dual arm tree, three light .500 blink down to green. It was a slow night, not a lot of cars, so we made quite a few passes, I did 8 in the NYer. A mixture of cars, from a turbo civic running 12s to a '67 Chevelle with a twin turbo setup going low 10s at 136. There were a half dozen Dodges with hemis, most of them doing 14.4-.5, then an Avenger 3.6 came in and ran a 14.4 also, made me chuckle a bit. Give me a heads up if you come down this way, it would be fun to meet you.

Weather permitting, they usually run every Friday and Saturday night, from 6pm until midnight. I was out there on March 6th, and I've run as late as Halloween night.

Yeah, the stock 2 1/4" downpipe with the factory converter kind of plugs it up. I'm thinking I've still got a 195^ thermostat in there too. A couple of minor changes should get me a 15 flat.....I hope.

Re: The Daily Driver NYer goes to PIR

Shows me how much a straight T2 conversion makes for power. My old new yorker went 14.3 with a 87 T2 setup through stock exhaust and trans at 14.5psi with the computer controlling the boost. Good runs for a log setup though.
