    VNT, or not...?

How can I tell if my newly-purchased '90 Daytona Shelby is the VNT motor or the standard turbo... Sorry, but I am seriously challenged on FWD turbo cars. Could anyone give me a simple way to tell? (Be easy on me on the technicals and parts names, thanks...)

Is it intercooled? If it's original that would be the only way to have the IC in 90. I guess you could tell from the VIN too.

Look at the turbo? Is there more solenoids under the hood than normal?

I think the vin should have a C in it, J otherwise. Also vnt manual transmission only.

Are you asking whether you can tell if the engine is original to the car, or are you asking how you can tell if it's a VNT or not?

    Re: VNT, or not...?

As Cordes said in post #2, if it is intercooled it is most likely a VNT, as only VNT engines/cars came with the intercooler in 1990. The intercooler sits next to the radiator, between it and the battery. There is a hose from the top of it to the throttle body.

And as Superbleu said, the C in the VIN also indicates the car was originally a VNT, however it should be the 8th digit (counting from the left), not the 6th.

Oh goody, I haven't seen that car in a couple years. Bring something to throw on the grille too (preferably food), we cook around noonish. Bring some beer for me too. I always drink all mine up then try to pick fights with the FWD haters. (I kid, I kid). We'll be parked near the cornfield, right beside the lepars, red headed step children, AMC, and Jeep classes.
