Picked up a timing belt to throw in the race box just because. The one that is on there looks fine but you know Murphy...

I figure if its in the box it won't break.

Starting to do a load up, car is running awesome. Easy, easy 13's on street tires.

Have tomorrow off so plenty of time to go over everything.

Just back from a night road test, tweaked the headlamp aim..

I'm going to try and install an O2 gauge if packing goes well. Lets see just how hard we can push it.

Car is packed with spare parts, tools and stuff to be delivered to folks at SDAC.

I have a timing belt, head gasket, 2 power modules, 2 logic modules, a new fuel pump and two spare HEP's and a box of other sensors.

And a clutch cable. And oil. and filters.

    Typical Shelby.

Getting ready to put my Mobil 1 badge under the hood and looked up a few shots of CSX engine bays so that I can open them in Photoshop and scale the engine badge to figure out how far apart it is from the Mobil 1 badge.

Almost no two are in the same spot! 3" apart looks to be the most common with one as far away as 4"

    3" it is.

    Gauges installed!

Had time to install the upper timing belt cover too. Still picking at stuff, been a hectic day.

I wanted to change the valve cover, just not a priority at the moment. If it was leaking would have been a different story..

Not that I'm aware of, it is possible there is one in my stash. After SDAC I'll try to go through them all and check part numbers and or function.

Some CSX pics from SDAC, we made it there and back but an abused piston finally gave up the ghost on the dragstrip.

Oh it was running, just a cylinder went south.

First pass at the strip was a 15.1 at 94? or 95 (I'll update later)

Second pass was 14.6 at 96

Third pass was 14.5 at 97

On the top end I felt a slight hesitation when going through the traps and when I popped the hood oil was everywhere. Compression check showed 40 psi in cylinder four.

After years of being driven with a cal with too much timing and a broken knock sensor one of the pistons gave up the ghost. To be honest I'm surprised something like this didn't happen sooner considering the hard life the car had, I expected at a minimum the rings were all beat to hell which is why I did a compression check a week or two ago.

The cal I was running was very conservative, it actually had a touch less timing than a stocker once boost was up there and I was keeping a sharp eye on the fuel which was safely rich at 16 psi. Damage ahd already been done though.

I stuck a 3/8 fuel line over the dipstick tube, ran it into a water bottle as a catch can and limped it 6 hours home. We would stop every hour for a break and pour the oil back into the motor. Think there was only a quart lost total.
