My '88 has a tilt. My '90 does not.
I put a Tilt column in the Shadow back in 2007 and then switched back to the fixed column in 2011. The added slop from the tilt mechanism was annoying beyond belief and truth be told I don't really miss it. Having a power seat base with more adjustment and the lumbar adjustment (Shout out to Pat those ES bucket seats are still going strong) really negated the need for a tilt column.

1987 Shelby CSX #418. Long term rebuild and restore ?
I put in a tilt column in my CSX cause i hated the fixed position, it was off just enough to annoy me. i used a G body column I got from turbovanman and I remember a slight mod i had to do but nothing major..may have just been where the wiring plugs into but i forget. So i know you CAN put a g body column in a p body. I hear you on being over the limit on cars.. same here...

The G body unit has much less space between the top of the column and where the pads mount to the dash. If you wanted to swap mounting collars I guess you could make that work. They do line up the same from what I recall. The wiring on the top of the column is different in how the connectors are oriented, but they will stretch over there and fit in place.
Saginaw columns are well known for some bolts coming loose about halfway down and making it feel like dog ----. It's a fairly PITA repair just to tighten some bolts (with loctite!!), but once tightened i don't feel they are any worse than any other k-car column. I've had tilt and non-tilt versions of the same car and never found any reason to prefer the fixed ones other than NEVER having to tighten those loose bolts. I have the tools and knowhow and would take the bad with the good. I value the adjustability.
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
You can tighten enough of them without getting too deep into the column that total disassembly isn't necessary IMO. For me it's a necessity regardless. It's illegal in 37 states for me to mate with the standard column which is the only way I can drive with one in the car. It's a bad scene.
Yup, I made a fairly good living repairing tilt columns (after learning how to do it lots of times under warranty) and still have all the tools for the job.
I'll have to look at the g-body unit I have here, might give it a go.
I did drop a note to the k-car owner so we will see what they say on the cars condition.

I pull those inverted torx bolts out of the columns and put in standard allen headed bolts. Makes it much easier to tighten with a ball nose allen wrench.
Pitched another power module in the car for testing, four more to go.

Merry Christmas everyone!
Looks like #193 is going to have a stablemate. I'm working a deal on a second non-running 87 CSX #561 that I'm going to swap over some parts. From there the car is going to go over to my sons who are tasked with getting it back on the road. I have an 86 Turbo I that is just lying around, plenty of TII intakes, etc.
They were told that they can have the car free and clear but they have to work on it.
I just need to change out pinion bearings in the Ram this weekend and I'll be ready to make pickup.

Rampage/CSX update- I installed a new am/fm/mp3 stereo in the wife's Rampage.

Very impressed. Has decent sound and the MP3 playback function seemed to work with no issues.
Now that I tried it out on her car now I'm going to install one in the CSX when I get a spare moment. Will be nice to have music playback without going through an adapter to the tape player.

i've been toying with that same idea with bluetooth so my phone can link to it and play music and internet radio too..
