    Grounding fan relay

I want to ground out the fan relay through a switch on my 89 CSX so I can turn the fan on and off. I've done this before and it works great because you are just tapping into the stock system. But I can't remember what wire you splice into. I don't want to guess because I did that on my NY years ago and took out a fusible link... doh! Anyone know what color the wire/tracer is on a 89. It's starting to warm up and here in the desert the stock fan schedule just does not cut it.

    Thanks!

    Re: Grounding fan relay

This may or may not be helpful, but on some of my older cars I installed a jumper in the high pressure A/C switch near the firewall H-valve block and that worked to turn the radiator fan on/off on demand by simply pushing the A/C button in the car. Of course this would only work if you've eliminated A/C from your car which isn't a big deal for me in Wyoming.

That's all you had to jump was just the high pressure? The car has AC but it's in-op. Jumping that is no big deal.

Yeah, I did this on my '87 Shelby Lancer and '86 Omni GLH Turbo. I'm not sure about the newer cars with SMEC or SBEC though.

It was just a small jumper with spade terminals about 1" long.....worth a shot.

Check exactly how inop, since some cars just turn the fan on when you have AC on anyway, so it's possibly got the functionality you want without messing with anything. (Until you fix AC and don't want it on just to have rad fan on)

Just tried it and it worked like a charm! The blower fan does have to be on though. Not a big deal.

For future reference, its the small wire on the rad fan relay that you ground out, its brown or blue.
