    555 rod linkage swap

    Hey guys,
I've seen quite a few threads on doing the 525 to 555 swap in the l-bodies with the cable shifter. Can someone provide me with some links on swapping in the 555 keeping the rod linkage in the charger? It already has the heim style linkage.I do know about moving or spacing the trans mount, and running the auto omni axles?Any info would be great. Thanks

You will need the linkage brackets relocated loke the ones omnipotent sells. www.omnipotentparts.com I have them but not yet installed. IILIKESHELBYS sells them too on the other turbo dodge forum.

There are other options out there. I made a set of brackets to adapt L body 525 linkage to a 520. I'll post photos tomorrow.

Basically your goal is to get all the pivot points in the same place relative to the shift selector, but still bolt up to the 520/555's thicker cast differential cover. Personally I cut up several brackets from Daytonas and L-bodies and frankenstein'd them together.

    Here are the photos.
You need a 520/555 rear mount bracket and a 525 rear pivot bracket to make the rear mount/ pivot for this adapter.
The upper pivot is made from a pice of 90º steel and a pivot shaft I turned on the lathe.
Use the selector shaft bracket from your 525 and then put a little of a downward bend on the upper pivot bracket so the two mate properly.

That looks doable.ill have to drag out the transmissions and take a look at them and get a perspective on how to get started. .thanks.

Ok.Pretty much have everything figured out.I don't have any old brackets to hack but i do have metal so i can fab some.I noticed when mocking up the linkage there is a small mounting boss located right behind one of the brackets.I can probably work around it but it would be better if it wasn't there.I noticed that ajakeski's trans doesn't have one.I'm assuming it got cut off or ????.I posted a pic to show which one im talking about.Thanks[IMG][/IMG]

The boss is for mounting the bracket for the cable shifters. I removed it in my Charger, but for the 555 going into my GLHS, I worked around it just in case that trans ever found its way back into a cable shifted car. You can see in my second pic that it allowed me to use the boss as a second mounting point, and drop the pivot post down in order to get closer to the 525's original location. This also required a bolt with a smaller head.

    Re: 555 rod linkage swap

I cut that off early in devolepment.

Once finished, I realized the linkage will clear that boss and it didn't need to be amputated.

The 520/555 rear mount bracket is still available from Mopar for about $20.

525 rear pivots are probably out there if you look. They usually stay attached to the transmission.

    Re: 555 rod linkage swap

I installed the transmission in my GLH this weekend. The adapter fits with no clearance issues and the dog bone mount lined up with the original bracket on the K frame.

    I'll call it a success.
