Auto is the only thing I'd use for your plans.
Purple plate will easily handle what I am doing for a fun van, and how much power do you use on the street? Anything over 18 psi on my van is too much on the street, a good 568 can easily handle that. The dedicated drag van is getting the auto. I really miss rowing gears on a turbo 4 cylinder, its too much fun.

I would stay away. All my SRT buddies have issues with that trans. Might just be the fact most SRTs have been abused at some point in their life. A buddy and I were just talking about swapping a t350 into his SRT after his stock one died, and the overpriced replacement he put in isn't much better.

Another thing to keep in mind is 850s have a different spline on the axles, so for your van that might mean custom axles.

Did I miss understand post #10 stating 500+whp in my pig van as being the same one you're thinking of a 5 speed in? Or is that engine planned for a drag only van?

No, I'll turn it up for the track, but for the street, I'll stick around the 18-20 psi mark. I don't think I'll have an issue at the track the few times I'll take her. I won't be launching like JT or others, come out soft, like SMP used too.

I won't go the 850 route, too much hassle.

I don't 1.3 60's are that soft, especially if you tried that with a manual. You won't get it perfect every time. JT also isn't trying to break things. He went back to 24.5's and tried being softer. Its still rough going.

1.3's aren't soft, SMP didn't cut those IIRC. You can watch his video's, he rolls out then it takes off. Granted its an auto so that helps. I currently cut 1.9 60 ft times and happy enough with those.
