    '89 T2 turbo shelf life?

I have an '89 T2 turbo that has near zero miles / hours on it. It has been sitting in a warehouse for over 20 years, what are the chances it would be no good if installed and run without going through it or having it freshened up?
    Thanks for the input!

As long as the turbo was properly lubricated when assembled it will be fine. Just verify that the wheels spin freely and prime it by cranking the engine for 10 seconds prior to starting.

Call if you need additional guidance.

I'm liking the sound of that! It's free spinning, and very clean. Will prelube if it ends up on a car. Thanks.

I was thinking about this. My turbo was purchased new in 06 and is in its third car with probably 3k miles on it. My fear was the oil seal drying up and smoking. Its on the car andwasgoing to "just do it".

There is no oil seal to dry up, its all metal inside. A turbo can't go bad sitting unless its stored in water or out in the open.

^. Correct. Since turbo seals are usually made of carbon they will not "dry up" like rubber. Assembly lube in the proper locations will prevent corrosion from forming on the bearing contact surfaces. FYI-Rubber would never survive the extreme temperature environment of a turbocharger.
