Options for pass side L body 555

Hey, I'm just curious if anyone has come up with any other options for passenger side axles in a 555/L body. In the past 3 weeks I've destroyed 2 intermediate shafts in my SC. I'm running the equal length setup right now with the 2 (new) 88+ drivers side automatic Omni axles.

This latest failure was (I assume ) at the U-joint (which was in perfect shape and greased when it went in a couple weeks ago). The carrier bearing is messed up, U-joint snapped apart and of course blew the axle apart as well.

This just happened last night so I don't have it out of the car yet to see if it was the u-joint that failed or if I broke one of the ears off.

Still. Of the 2 options for using the 555, both involve using an intermediate shaft and I have to say I'm losing faith in them.

So does anyone have another option for a passenger side axle? Am I stuck with constant breakage? Or is it just fluke that I happened to break 2 in such a short span?

BTW, the first one broke on 14 psi, the one last night on 19. No wheelhop either. First one snapped in mid 2nd gear. Last night was in 3rd. Both times at WOT of course. Limited traction both times as well.

Just to add. It's very possible that the first int shaft was broken when the bracket holding it to the block broke in half. No way of telling what gave way first. Either way. Still means the int shaft setup hasn't been very reliable for me.

You could switch to an 88+ automatic passenger axle and ditch the equal length setup.

Engine alignment is fine though I doubt thats an issue since i'm not having axle failures. It's the intermediate shaft that keeps breaking and it's a fixed piece. Usually engine alignment causes the inner CV joint to pull apart.

So there's no problems running the long Omni axle? The thought crossed my mind, but kinda wondered why nobody else seemed to do it. Any common thoughts on the strongest setup? I've, of course been playing with these cars for several years, but I'm still an L body n00b. hahaha

I am running the long pass side axle with sucess, but at a much lower level of boost. I know of one other guy who is putting out around 400HP and running the long axle last I checked.

Im also using the lond pass axle with my A523 and no problems yet,Look at it this way theres only 2 CV joints now to fail and not 2 CVs 1 U joint and a carrier bearing.Less things to fail the beter it should be.

My thoughts exactly. Happy to have some confirmation! I'll try to warranty the busted drivers side axle and hold onto it as a spare. I also have one more intermediate shaft so if I take those two things with me to the track I'll be gauranteed a way home if I break a short OR long one.

I'll order a long one tomorrow and hope they can get it in before the weekend. My car is still at Wal Mart. hahaha Hopefully I didn't mess anything else up under there while all that metal was flopping around.

I still love my car. Pulling SO nice. Can't wait to have some fun at the strip next weekend!
