    L-Body turbo reinforcements?

I've read in a couple of places that starting with the GLH Turbo, the L-Bodies received some reinforcements in the engine bay to handle the extra power of the turbo engine. Where were these placed, specifically? I'm going to be upgrading my '84 GLH to turbo specs, and want to check into adding any reinforcements while the engine is out of the way. But, I have no idea where these reinforcements are placed.

The only one I know of is the long plate for the front motor mount below the rad

It is discussed in the below thread:

I am and some others have made braces to link the K frame to the rad support to add rigidity.
For my 2.4 swap, Brian Slowe made me one that also bolts to the bell housing.

There is a bracket bolted to the lower right front corner of the engine bay in every turbo L I've seen.

DO you have a picture of this bracket? Or anybody else?

It's not a great view, but you can kind of see it in these two pics:

    Re: L-Body turbo reinforcements?

1st you can see the approx. 3/32" thick metal that's under the motor mount bracket. It's bent 90 degress and welded under the a/c condensor at the top of the lower rad support. Then the 4 bolts to the motor mount bracket go through it and 2 more on the bottom outsides. What I didn't get pic of and I can if you want is that on the other side of those 4 bottom bolts is a .125x1" strap that the bolts are welded too and go through to the engine bay to sandwhich it all together. 5spd T2 cars got this metal as well.

Then there's this piece. It is also bolted to the body with 4 bolts.

Cut and pasted most of it from the other thread and re-linked the pics. Please read all of the 1st paragraph as it has notes on things you can't see.

    Re: L-Body turbo reinforcements?

So, the first one is welded, the 2nd bolted?

I think my Daytona has a similar bracket to the first picture above.

I guess I should be looking into this also. THe NA GLH cars didn't get this bracing so I should probably add it in there at the least. Does anyone have pictures of the bracing they've added in addition to the factory stuff? I can't imagine that I'll be making much less than 250HP on the very low end for my GLH. Probably much more than that if I had to guess.

    Re: L-Body turbo reinforcements?

    Rob,
The 1st one is about 3/32" thick, and bent at 90 degrees, It has slots in the top under the radiator that are welded to hold it there. The along the lower part of the rad support where you see the bolts sticking through it's just bolted. Those 4 bolts you see sticking through on the other side are going through a 1" wide by .125" thick piece of strap that sandwhich the whole thing together.

The 2nd one is bolted down.

Yes your daytona should have the same thing as in the 1st pic. Is it a factory T2 car?? Or just a factory T1 5spd? If it was a factory T2 car it'll also have a piece of C-channel bolted to the front of the lower rad support all the way across with big self-tapping bolts.

    Re: L-Body turbo reinforcements?

My car definitely doesn't have either one of those.

Can someone make a paper rubbing of the bracket welded to the core support? I can use that as a template to make my own. I guess I can probably get close by the pics, too.

The other bracket; where can I get one? Anyone sell them?

The Auto ShelbyZ I bought doesn't have the welded bracket under the front motor mount so I'm making my own. It's a hair thicker, and spans almost the entire lower rad support. The 1" x.125" thick piece that goes in front that has the 4 studs going through the lower rad support and motor mount and is about 12" long stock will be across the entire front end with more bolts and studs through it. I really should get some pics of it.
