    440 twin turbo help

hi I am new hear and could use some help. I am starting my twin turbo dodge ram 440 bild and I have a few questions . like t3 or t4 flange what turbo's to use and would an intercooler from a cummins work. also what cam should I use for a 3/4 ton ram . my future plans are forged internals a good set of heads and fuel injection. it's going to be street truck but it would be nice to have a 1000 hp. right now I have two hx35 laying around and the intercooler from cummins. any info would be appreciated.

I see you are aiming for ~1000hp. Are you just going to be racing this truck or will it be hauling stuff, too. Not saying one can't do the other, but at that level I'm inclined to think that the gap between how well each does the other's job starts to get quite large.

good point. I figured a 1000 hp was a long shot but it would be cool. it's a street truck that will haul a car trailer from time to time. may be a tug of war two. it still needs to be reliable for the street. just in case I want to go on a few hour road trip.

I think twin HX35's on a 440 would be wicked! I dunno if it would get you 1000hp, but it would definitely be a great street truck with the right combination.

I am not going to pretend to know much about the V8's, but there's other V8 guys lurking on here that could help. A single Cummins intercooler is ok for 1 of those turbos, but I think you will want something larger for your goals.

You have the rest of the drive train planned out.

Unless you are going to have really tall tires, those gears seem like too much. The turbos will make lots of torque, and needs something to work against, those gears will also make street driving unpleasant.

Yeah, to build that 46RH you are going to need to basically scratch build a 48RH. I've looked into it for my truck.

Again, I'm not RWD expert, but knowing the dangerous amount that I do, I'm thinking that much power and 39" tires, even in "4-High" is going to be hell on axles.

Going with a 4-link or torque arm or?? I would think some sort of suspension mods to keep things under the frame are essential for not breaking things or finding the nearest obstacle to hit.

To post pictures you have to have a minimum post count (10 I think?). The easiest way is to have a photobucket account, or something like that, then use the "link" button on the thread tool bar (looks like a globe with a chain link in front of it to the right of the "smiley").

You'll need to have a few more posts before you can upload pictures, that and/or kick down the $20.00 to be a "supporting member" for $20.00...

Looks like you'll hit the post count pretty quick anyway.

Twin HX35's may be kinda laggy on a basic 440ci for what you probably want but don't know you want yet.
600-700hp seems more reasonable too. Cummins intercooler, not okay.

What is your rev limiter, what RPM does power die off on the planned future motor?

a 1000 horse power was just a cool thought . there's nothing written in stone this early in the project . I'm just trying to do it on somewhat of a budget and get all my ducts in a row. I figure when that motor is done it should spin to about 6500 rpm. all so I have a hx 55. would that work if I went with a single turbo and could I use the cummins intercooler then.

I personally think the intercooler is too small. I want to say people were able to make 400hp or so, but after that it became a restriction.

    Re: 440 twin turbo help

Defiantly following this project, I'm looking to put the same drivetrain in my '70 300. Details on the trans and the adapter would be really appreciated. You can easily get 500hp out of a 440, twin turbos should bump it up to 700 with good reliability. I would shoot for more torque than overall HP. Edelbrock has a nice set-up for the 440. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/...chrysler.shtml

ya that edelbrock set up is in the works "tax return". I am
definitely going to need torque. the truck s a 3/4 1 ton mix and it's a extended cab 8 foot box. I built a 6 ft box with a 2ft tool box all out of stainless steel. as far as the adapter check out smr transmissions converters. phone number is 888-866-603
