One Piece Intake Modded with 3.8 Neck

Woody's build up has been moving along, nothing crazy yet power wise Just good IC and exhaust but I've been collecting the parts for a new top end. I'm sure most of you know how 'invasive' the CARB/Smog police out here in Cali are so just bolting on a BMF or other custom intake can get you nixed at the smog cert station or if you get pulled over for *any* reason the law enforcement can pop your hood and inspect you for speed equipment. That happened to me last year in the Rampage RT, officer said he saw the hood pins and suspected I wasn't 'emission compliant' under hood. He was right and it was a six month fiasco wondering if I'd even be able to keep the Rampage So for Woody's build my goal is to stay 'stock appearing' and in effect, 'emissions compliant'

Pretty widely discussed here that the neck on a one piece intake is the choke point and I've seen some modded designs that increase flow potential but don't look stock. So I went boneyard shopping for larger necks from 3.3's and 3.8's. I didn't know which style would work so I just started cutting. Definatley the style with the EGR return on the bottom is the wrong style, you can see it in one of the pics. What I also didn't know is that if you want to keep the throttle body where it is now, the 3.8 piece is too short in both directions so I used two necks to extend the turn towards the drivers side and towards the front of the motor. I didn't want to have to remake the IC tubing so exact stock location was my objective. Anyway, the pictures pretty much tell the rest of the story. End result all painted up with some wrinkle black is a stock appearing intake that will pass any amount of underhood scrutiny from the 'wrong' crowd

very cool. I had one of those intakes stashed away but when I moved I found out wasps had made it into their home so I let them keep it lol. Since you didn't post a pic I'm assuming you just opened up the hole in the intake since you did not raise the roof?

That is really cool Alan. Did you open up the body of the intake to mate with the neck of the V6 piece?

ETA: See the new "The car police and you" thread in the lounge for talk of avoiding the authorities when using off road diesel etc.

Yeah, I have 30+ hours of fabrication in this manifold only to leave that giant 'wall' of disparity there, you know, just to block the flowpath I guess I didn't take pics of that step but I had to build a new 'floor' out of a little piece of sheet aluminum to close that transition once the wall was removed. It's only like a 2.5" X 2.5" piece to make it flow into the plenum. Motor is still out but assembled, I'll shoot a pic up from the bottom showing it tomorrow or Tuesday before drivetrain goes back in.

That would be great. Did you modify the back like a lot of people have done? If not, how much above the runners is the bottom of the V6 neck?

Ummm, we watched some March Madness round ball at the neighborhood bar for the last 5 hours so not sure I understand your question from an English majors perspective but yeah, the V6 neck is bigger, way bigger, you looked at pics right? That's why I took them
