How do you pop the hood on an Omni if the cable is broken? I knew it was broken, but figured it was still the best way to keep it closed on the tow home. Now, I can't get it open.

That's a tough one. Is there a rad in the car? If not you could probably use some vise grips to remove the bolts holding down the bracket from the bottom side. The latch on the Omnis is pretty well protected.
I believe they are the type of bolts that have a little nub on them at the bottom below the threads.
Can you reach finger or tool up under the hood to release the latch? Where is the cable broken?

Not sure where the cable is broken. The outer part seems intact, just broken on the inside.
I can get a small screwdriver up in there, but I don't know where to put it. The cable goes in on the backside; I'm blind to the release lever from the front.
Maybe someone can snap a couple pictures of their latch mechanism for me so I can figure out how to release it?
I'll be back in a couple of minutes with pics. With how this site has been pic wise lately, you'll owe me!!!!!
Is the cable still there? Can you cut the cables sheath, and then slide it back so you can pull on the cable? Obviously that will only work if it's broke on the interior release end.
Took a video. Will upload and post ASAP. It'll take me as long as the processing etc. of photos has.
I'll cut to the chase and tell you that if you can't pull the able out through the slots for the rad brackets you'll have to use vise grips on the bolts that hold the bracket on. It takes so much force to pull the lever and spring the latch that I can't see getting anything back there easily.
Here is the video.
Thanks, Cordes. That helped. I was able to loop a coat hanger, snake it in around the back there, hook the lever and release it. The cable wasn't actually broken, it had just come out of the eyelet. I hooked it back up, but I think I'll wait until I really need to latch the hood to try it again...
Glad that worked. I didn't think a coat hanger would be strong enough to get a good pull on the lever. Perhaps mine is just gummed up from the nasty stuff all over it though.
