You can rod shift a 555/520 pretty easily. I'm not aware of anyone who has done a 523/568 yet. You can install the shifter and cables for any cable shifted trans though.

I promise you converting the newer trans to Rod shift is worth the effort.

Really? So, I shouldn't have left behind all the rod shift parts for the '84 GLH I just got? It came with a 520 from a Daytona Pacifica. I figured I couldn't use them.

    Rod shifter is really nicer?

I was VERY pleasantly surprised with how nice it was in my GLH with 525 after doing the Jon Trotter style conversion. That was with a sloppy motor mount in front allowing for a lot of play too. I would imagine that with a good mount from Johnny it would be exceptional. When I need a new trans in mine there is no doubt that I'll stay with the rods.

I can build you a set of transmission adapter brackets that will allow you to use rod linkage with you a520 or a555 transmission.

    Not that much...

I've heard of a lot of 525's failing with stock 142 hp. With what you're doing, you need to upgrade...
